A grenade was lobbed into a mosque in Chiang Mai, the attack happened in the morning.

A security source at the Government House said the old power clique was behind the simultaneous bomb attacks in Bangkok.

The source from an intelligence agency said the intelligence agencies had learnt about the plan of the old clique to create disturbance toward the yearend.

The source said Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont was on standby in Bangkok because he expected the attacks.

The Thai Rak Thai Party was not behind the series of bombs that rocked Bangkok last night, said the party deputy speaker Chatuphon Promphan.

A security source said the Council for National Security may order the seizure of assets of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to cut money supply for financing disturbance in the country.

The source said the CNS believed Thaksin was behind the series of seven bomb attacks in Bangkok Sunday evening.

The source said the CNS noted many bombs were launched at police booths but none of police officers were injured.

Initial speculation was that the bombs were either the work of Muslim rebels from Thailand's troubled deep south or of groups opposed to the current military-installed government after a junta ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on September 19.

Political analysts were more inclined to blame the bombs on disgruntled supporters of Thaksin than on Muslim militants, arguing that the coordinated attacks were beyond the operational capacity of the southern separatists who have in the past limited their activities to Thailand's three southernmost provinces.

Dear SN,
As far as I remember Yaowarat is the main road in China Town and at least 10 km south of Chaeng Wattana. (which is in fact already in Nonthaburi province. It is the road right with the first traffic lights when you come from Don Muang airport )
Just a small detail.

That's why it was a hoax, just like the bomb hoax at Chiang Mai's Tesco and Carefour today....
