There's a new departure scheduled for 17h30 (also A330-300)

flight number is SN1353 = Brussels-Kinshasa-Douala

(scheduled this morning was SN351 = Brussels-Douala-Kinshasa)

Noodlanding op Zaventem lokt wrevel uit in buurgemeenten

Post by AF332 »

Content of that press article:

Seems many many members from many many anti-airport committees have seen the big bird in problems, and they don't like it.

Even some mayors now protest. That's strange, as one of them was a Business Class passenger on that same SN351 just two week ago: as a member of parliament, he was going to witness the elections in Congo.

The flight of ALX was also delayed. Could it be that SNBA made and arrangement with them to took over some pax for transport to FIH?

I hope for SNBA that they could resolve the current problems with the A330's.

I don't think so. 2 of the 3 flights to Africa tomorrow are cancelled. The Dakar flight was first delayed to 13.00, and is now also cancelled.

I think that SNBA have some serious problems with their A333. But what I don't understand is that they have received a full check, some months ago. No?

Kind regards

SFM had an engine failure (no° 2) and was parked at the old C-pier. No more info from my side...

I have witnessed the landing. The airport was closed for a few minutes after the crew declared the emergency. The approach and the landing were absolutely normal. Only the trained eye could see the bank into the good engine to compensate for the assymetric thrust.
Except for the numerous firetrucks at the RWY edge there is no way that any of the surrounding complainers could have noticed anything unusual with that AC. No way josé that it flew lower over the neighbouring houses than it would on two engines. I also noticed during the taxi back that both engines were turning so the failed engine did not stop entirely.

But I saw the aircraft climb-out and below 1000' its climb rate was reduced significiantly. That probably worried the inhabitants. Its initial climb was ok, until a 3-400ft when I noticed the gear wasn't going up and plane wasn't climbing the way it should.

If I remember correctly, they got maintenance done at SR Technics in Switserland (both airframe and engines) Very strange indeed that after such a short while the A333's are starting to get problems ...

But, as petarn said, it was not a problem of maintenance. Maybe there was a birdstrike or something similar.

I am curious to hear what the reason was !

During take-off, flames where spotted at engine number 2. This can point indeed to a birdstrike.

For me the reaction of the inhabitants of overflown towns was hilarious. One woman even claimed that the a/c flew only 10cm overhead their building. It's a pitty that politicians and inhabitants use this event to try to forbid take-offs from rwy20. I think a black list with people who are always nagging against the airport would be a good idea. Once on the list you are forbidden to fly on airline flights. This to prevent sheep from following the rest of the flock, as a lot of persons are signing petitions because their neighbour does!!!

Ban the anti-airport people!!!!!

Looks to me the crew handled the emergency very professional.

As for the complainers : note that we have elections coming.

In the newspaper, some even think the engine failed as it was running at max power on a short runway :?:

As if this problem couldn't happen on 25R :!:

I would file these complaints under nimby
motorcycling : sensation with a twist of the wrist

If it was a birdstrike it could happen everywhere, also on runway 25R. But then was the emergency process much longer than it was taken off yesterday on runway 20.

I don't understand these people. The problem with the Airbus could also been an other aircraft, even a Boeing. But I think if some of these people were in that aircraft for their flight to Africa. I think that some of them were happy that they are back on the ground. Then there was no reaction of the inhabitants.

And if the Airbus was only 10cm overhead their building, then she had an other problem I think. She had to do some roof construction, with all her flowned roof tiles.

Kind regards

It's true that Rwy20 is not the safest one. It is shorter that the 2 Rwys 25 and therefore its use with wide-bodies should be avoided.

But it is also longer than the only runway of CRL!

I can tell, it was not a birdstrike...
there was nothing seen external at the engine, it was internal, but you can not see that like that, they can see with special tooling...

maybe something was broken in the combustor.
