Hm, I smell a birdstrike...

AMSTERDAM — A Belgian Air Force pilot was killed on Friday when his F-16 fighter jet crashed near the Dutch island of Vlieland.

His body was recovered during a search by the Dutch coast guard hours after the crash.

The plane had taken off from the Florennes air force base in Belgium on Friday morning with three other F-16s for a military exercise.

A Belgian military investigation commission has been sent to the scene of the accident to determine the cause of the crash.

Defence Minister André Flahaut has offered his sympathies to the pilot's family, newspaper 'De Standaard' reported.

This is the third fatal crash involving Belgian F-16s in recent years.

A pilot was killed after two Belgian F-16 air force jets crashed during a military exercise in Belgium in December 2003. Another pilot managed to eject and escaped unhurt.

The accident happened above woodland in the Marche-en-Famenne area in the south of the Belgium.

In April 2004, a Belgian F-16 crashed near the town of Sellingen in Groningen province in the Netherlands.

The jet collided with an ultra-light plane from a local flying club.

One of the two Belgian crew members died and the pilot of the ultra-light was also killed in the accident.

Interested in some com's of the 19th of july?

Check: Frequency Monitor Center News in Dutch, but a nice recording of the com's

Or else my own recordings:

Burst flight inbound the range
Sting and Metal flights just after the crash
Bandbox working with Magic 63 after the crash

In the second recording you can hear how willing the other fighters from Volkel are to go to the crash spot to find the ejected pilot. So much that the female controller at one moment is overruled by the male controller. :) Here after there is some confusion about the RTB field for all the fighters.
