I never knew Tesla was a Serbian, but there are many things which I don't know.

I think he was born in Croatia (Smilja, if I remember correctly) which was part of the Austrian - Hungarian Empire by then and died in the US. Anyway, I think it is not really important where he was born and especially not which nationality he had - naming an airport in his name to honor this superb researcher is a fine thing.

According to Wikipedia, he was born in Croatia, but his family was Serbian.

He went to college in Austria, and after that he moved to the USA.

The S.I. unit for magnetic flux density is named after him.

I doubt anyone would name an airport after some foreigner, unless that foreigner did something important for the country.

Yes, Nikola Tesla is famous for saying "I'm proud of my Croatian home and my Serbian heritage." (or something like that). His father was a Serbian Orthodox priest. Since it is his 150th birthday today there have been many celebrations in Belgrade as 2006 has been proclaimed "Year of Tesla"

Tesla was an American!
Any person that moves to another country and spends the rest of their life in that country belongs to their new adopted country despite their previous homeland and their heritage!
Tesla is worshipped by both the serbs and croats!
At the end of the day Tesla was an American!
I dont think anyone can dispute that fact!

Is it actually a statue of Nikola Tesla? I hope somebody checked.

My highschool was named after Vossius, a 16th/17th century scholar. They put a statue of him in front of the school, but accidentally the statue is not of Vossius but of Erasmus, a 15th/16th century scholar, and a more famous figure than Vossius.

Sorry, it is a statue. I wasn’t quite sure what the correct word was.

Tesla - an American, hehe, now thats funny. Only by citizenship, but that doesn't make him an American. He wasn't boen there, he didn't educate there, he doesn't have American relatives, he was there to work, nothing more nothing less. And it is funny to know he was the only person to say negative coments about Edison after Edison died.

We are all the same, Serbs Croatians Slovene etc. we are all brothers. i think where he was born or his nationality doesn't matter. I think what is important is his celebration between two nations and how much he is recognised between the Croatian and Serbian people.

hvala. :rotate:

I like to think of him as a Yugoslav. He was born in Croatia, yet his family are all Serbians, and by saying he is a Yugoslav is easiler, imo.

I just want to correct your comment "Mister serbaviation".
You said "we are all the same, serbs, croats, slovene etc. we are all brothers".
You are so wrong mister!
Croats and Serbs are not all the same!
Croats and Serbs are two different races!
The Croats and Serbs relationship between their two countries is based
on mutual respect and cooperation.
Croatia is heading towards the European Union and all i can say is that
any European country that respects human rights and embraces democratic principles is Croatia's brother and vice versa!

Any way,its good to see competion in Serbia!
Your country has still a lot of work to do to get your house in order to
become a candidate for European Union membership!
Anyway, see you in the future E.U!

Mr world!

There is only 3 races and i am sorry to tell you that greeks to norwegians belong to the same race. Croatians may be more westernized than the serbs in some aspects but we are still the same-southslavs with differrent religion nothing more. You croatians should stop complaining all the time and feel that you are less worth-be proud and do not think that you are better or worse than any body else 8)
