studies and flying

Post by Omikros »

Hi,

I talked with someone last days and he has a kind of strange plan for his future aviation job...

Most people first study something to have a degree in their pocket if it doesn't work out as pilot. Now this boy I know he thinks about going for his ATPL if he leaves school and then, when he ends his pilot training, go to the university to study something. So while he studies he wants to fly as instructor so he can fly, earn money, and study the same time.

What do you all think about this, good idea or do you think this will end up in one big misery?

Bad idea , you can not earn enough money to pay your atpl and studie at the same time.
Unless he has a good sponsor so that he doesn't have to pay the loan that most ab intitio's have to pay.
On the other hand it is possible that he will try to get his master in aviation which is coupled to the atpl license

''Most people first study something to have a degree in their pocket if it doesn't work out as pilot.'' >> That's completely untrue!
Most people I know weren't graduated before starting flying... Even me.
The big problem is that when you finish your atpl ,it doesn't match any qualification! ( for french community for the flemmish I think it's now equivalent to 1 cycle of study).
So if you think you will still want to study to get your pilot licence after university of wathever go for it but I am really not sure you will do it....

OK

I'm now doubting about a very serious thing...
All my life I was sure i was going to study something before starting my ATPl, to be sure to have a backup degree...But now that I'm older and have had lots of ideas of studies, I can't imagine any other study that would interest me...except pilot! I just want to be a pilot...ALthough I have still one study I would consider, informatica, I'm now thinking about doing this or not?

What would you, pilots and non pilots, do nowadays, study something or not? Should I go for the informatics course, which is a bachelor study (3 years), or should I go straight to the ATPL course???

I think EPST or EAA, dutch school which give their trainings, respectively, in Oxford aviation training and Aero Madrid. Both good schools with interesting bank contracts for the financial part.
