If true, indeed sad news, the last AEF log was noted @ ebbr with the Bayern soccer team on October 1.

Eight A320s and eleven A321's are grounded now.

When on summer holiday 2002 in Switserland a saw a "Sabena A320" passing 10km above me. First thought: Sabena is back in this fata morgana :?:. Later i found out that Aero Lloyd was leasing this ex Sabena plane still with the beautiful S design. Another illusion richer......

So the second hand market in Airbusses keeps
on growing.

Is that the reasons some new airlines opt
for A320's ?

Not only Airbus, 777, ever looked at the number of 737's in the desert?

I was kind of shocked when I heard the news, who had expected this?

Sad, very sad...

Sad news, indeed... Again a livery that will be disapear from our skies... :(

It appears to me that the "small", (read: independant) charter-airlines will disappear, so that the big touroperators can control the whole market... The big ones (TUI and Thomas Cook) are doing everything to let the independants dissapear, so that they can control the market (and the prices...)

Exemples enough:
* CityBird was replaced by Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium...
* Sobelair refused a take-over by TUI, now TUI is starting their own charter-airline... We will see what time brings for Sobelair...
* Aero Lloyd, flights will be taken over by... My guess is the touroperators own carriers...
* Condor is integrated, and changed name in Thomas Cook Powered by Condor...
* Hapag Lloyd changed its livery to the TUI-livery
* Same for Brittannia...
* JMC disappeared in favour of again Thomas Cook...

The big touroperators want to control every single aspect of our holidays, from, the moment we left our home till we are back home (how many hotels are already hold by them?)

Not so good for the "variety" in the air... All charter planes will look the same in a few years (if things continue like now...), we will only see TUI or TC-aircrafts...

I do still hope a miracle happens...

Regards,
Ben

    I agree with 777.

I know the desert very well and there are several deserts.

The B737 is a very old aircraft in production since 1967 where the A320 only since 1988(1989?). So it exists twice as long.
More than 4000 of them are in service.
So proportionally there are less on the second hand market.
Any given time of the day there are 1200 B737's in the air.

That's vertical...

Ben, that is called vertical integration, and that process was already set out many years ago.

Once tourism got INDUSTRY it had to get vertical.
Same goes for food, specially fast food, these companies have their own catlle..., transport, factories, sales outlets, finance companies and ... potato farms.

Latest News: About 8,000 tourists, customers of Aero Lloyd, are stranded in several countries. Thomas Cook and LTU are organising flights to bring them back home.

  • On ZDF Heute Journal at 21.45 they showed pilots and
flight attendants driving with busses through Munich
    to show off their anger.

This in front of the banks that killed the airline(Aero Lloyd).

Images very similar to the Sabena situation.

They also showed pilots visiting their empty A320series.

    A real pitty.

It's not the banks that killed Aero Lloyd, but bad management. The bank only tried to avert wider losses.
