I think people on here should be careful when they say "safety problems"
Yes their planes experience delays and technical problems but I wouldn't say that they are unsafe.

Emirates,

I agree with you, but on the other hand, would you fly them?

Cheers,

I remember some years ago on 'het leven zoals het is: Luchthaven' that the company wasn't that very strict on safety related items. (rebroadcast of that programme soon on belgian television)
There was a severe engine-leak but the captain just minimized the problem. A don't think that's a safe attitude if you have to cross the Atlantic...

If somebody says that the crashes at Sylhet and Dhaka ( exit DC-10 and Fokker) are not safety related, than we need a new dictionary.

Was wondering since i read a report that said May 14, 2006 the US gov. wouldnt allow Biman to land at JFK and also did not allow the flight to enter US airspace. The plane was diverted to Montreal........

Beware that engines loose fluid on a normal bases, this is not always a technical problem.

Just this week, VRT has started re-broadcasting of "Het leven zoals het is: Luchthaven" (something like "That's life: Airport").

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on TV1, around 20h00.

I was quite a fan of the series and if I remember correctly, it wasn't an engine leak but a hydraulic leak on the front gear. The captain indeed minimized the problem with the historic words "Only a leak ?!". However, Sabena Technics did the reparation.

It was an oil leak on the third main gear, not the front gear. There was a "joinke" damaged and needed to be replaced. Due to the gross weight the third main gear couldn't be retracted so they had to replace the "join"(or how do you write it?)

It was NOT necessary to replace the oil strut seal, so they did NOT replace the seal because it was just a bit moved, mechanics compressed the strut to make the seal came back in his original place and the leak was gone.... so we come from a engine oil leak to a hydraulic leak on the nosegear and in fact it was a minor oil leak at the strut of the Body gear... I think if you do a proper walk around the aircrafts at Brussels Airport you will find some minor strut leaks or not correct pressurized struts please make sure you know the facts before you reply...... no offence but this way we get some amazing storys that never happened....

The last Biman flight to New York flew today.

Post by SN30952 »

Cash-strapped national carrier Biman suspended yesterday flights to New York in a bid to cut massive losses and said it plans to halt services to other international destinations soon.
Biman lost $149,210- for every flight to New York.

Biman would also soon suspend flights to Frankfurt, Paris and Yangon.

Last October it was approved to sell 61% of the company to private investors , and euh.... the waiting room stayed pretty empty...

*In Bangladesh money: 10.4mn taka, at the todays rate the loss will be 149,210 US Dollar = 10,659,413 Bangladeshi Taka....
About 275USD for every saleable seat

That must have been the last flight then. It's a good desicion I think. They will have to fly only profitable routes if they want to survive. Then they can finally renew their fleet with more fuel efficnt aircraft with working airco and lavatories.

:offtopic:

Please stay on the subject! What is the relation between the subject: Biman Bangladesh safety issue and the fact that you saw a Biman DC10 in Brussels?
