Boeing is having 3 747-400'ss converted for its' use in transporting 787 components. There is a distinct possibility that others might realize the value of having a transport for outsized cargo and contract for further modifications.
The C-5A and Russion An-124 are generally used for military or specialized cargos. But there is a need for such a capability commercially. Perhaps more 747-400's will be converted. The design will be complete, the learning curve will be known and the design will be certified within a year.

I am not certain when the first double decker aircraft flew, but the Douglas C-124 for the US Air Force flew in November 1949 and entered service in the early 1950's. The plane was a double decker.ehamspotter wrote:Hello;fokker_f27 wrote:It's ugly, yet so cool!
Agree, but it is something veeery special and massive.
A total other view than we used to of a 747.
I don't know but mabe Boeing saw now from airbus that it is possible to build an airplane with two decks.

would the 787 parts would fit the airbus belouga ?
because it would have been cheaper for boeing just to order some belougas,
but for honour, i supposed it's better to have a boeing transporting boeing parts...
from where to where wil this plane fly ? i thought all boeing parts were built in Seattle...
