LET 410 crashed near Rio
All the 17 passengers an 2 crew died in the Team LET 410 that crashed friday 31 fifteen minutes after taken off from Macae, the most important Brazilian petroleum hub, around 150 miles from Rio. Most of the passengers worked for Petrobras (the petroleum state company).
The plane collided against trees in the Atlantic Florest and exploded 40 miles North of Santos Dumont downtown airport in Rio. It was flying at less than 2000 feet (it had to be flying at least at 6.000 feet).
Captain Michael Peter Hutten, former Brazilian Air Force aviator, was a very experienced airman, with more than 30 years of experience. The black boxes were find and offficial investigation of ANAC (National Agency of Civil Aviation) wil be concluded in 30 days.
Specialists suspect that a mechanical problem forced Cap. Hutten to try to divert to a small airport in Saquarema, near the crash site. The weather was severe with strong rain and fog. It`s been very difficult to identify passengers and crew. Ten of the passengers bodies will be identified only with DNA investigation. It`s the first Team accident, a company that usually flies feeder lines near Rio.
