VLM will go for what can fly into LCY - if the EMB170 can get certification then it could be a strong contender. The Fokker jet is already LCY-certified. VLM's fleet upgrading is held to ransom by the restrictions at LCY.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

The turbo-props still in production and licensed to use LCY are of the ATR, Bombardier Dash8 and Dornier 328 families.

The pure jets licensed at the moment are the BAe 146 and RJ100, and the Fokker 70, both no longer in production.

Pure jets candidates are : Bombardier CRJ, Embraer 170/190/195 and Airbus A318...

And what about the Q400? VLM Airlines did already a test with this aircraft last year!

and what about an-148: with its short field performance and steep approach performance it could maybe also be seen as a candidate (80pax, around 14MioEUR or easy lease over Ilyushin finance!) and it is about to be certified! And this plane is NOT a revival of an older design and is new!

perfectly suited for LCY, more pax, more speed, more range than F50
But its a jet with a jet fuel burn (also if the engine is up to date regarding consumption!)

about the conservative managment : you are totally right and I have to say that this kind of managment proved to be successful!
I'm not totally sure that a managment, as conservative as it can be, would not have a DEEP look at all possible alternatives, especially as it is well managed.

Tim, how did the Q400 "fail in every test"?

As far as I know, Bombardier did offer VLM Airlines a test flight between ANR and LCY. And I would expect that this aircraft was able to impress in many ways. However an important obstacle is obviously always... $$$.
Furthermore the wingspan of the Q400 requires 2 parking positions at LCY, which can be a problem there during the peak hours.

And who told you that? The brother of the father of the sister of your aunt's best friend who knows somebody who works for VLM?

You seem to do that quite often at luchtzak.be (i.e. posting some extreme stuff without any content). Back your postings up or say nothing.

Hey Tim, we all get "scolded" once in a while at home, at school, at work...
Fortunately we don't have to divorce, quit school or look for another job each time that happens.

Digest, perhaps learn a lesson, think positive and move on.

> And somebody from our club ASA !!!

I happen to know various ASA people and many of them obviously know much more about aviation than me. Some of them may even have been on the Q400 test flight. You can ask your friend to be more specific about why exactly the Q400 did not meet VLM's expectations.

Nobody is asking you to leave, Tim.

However: just imagine that everyone starts to post one-liners like you often do (like: "the Q400 failed every test"). This without any source, or any explanation why this would have been the case.

It's perfectly possible that your Q400-info is inside information (and it is also perfectly possible that the Q400 really failed every test), but at least, give us some background info so that we can interpret your message.

Thanks Established !!!

But I'm not going to post anymore ... Because they don't appreciate me here ... so I can't be bothered anymore ... I think Sabena_690 did a very low move !!! He didn't know my background ... And still he make statements like that... Sabena-690 if you know ASA and the people (some of them are every day in ANR !!! Don't you think they know anything, I have the deepest respect for those people, everything I know from aviation in ANR is from them !!! So if you think you know more then these people ... Some of them ARE more then 30 years in aviation, who do think I believe ...

Dear Tim,

As Sabena_690 said in his last post, it's perfectly possible that you had inside info, we don't deny that. BUT just mentioning 4 words "It failed every test !!!" in a reply isn't very informative. With the many false rumours on the net it's difficult to judge from such a statement if it's true or not. SO please, give some more reasons to why it failed in the future if you make such a statement. I'm sure it would be of interest of many of our members.

Now let's please get back on topic.

Best Regards
Chris

I'd go for Fokker 100:

Since many are being withdrawn, It might be cheap to get them second hand. And VLM seems to trust Fokker aircraft. KLM Cityhopper also has a fleet of F50/F70/F100.

Nobody mentioned it yet so I'll do it.

For the moment VLM will lease an Avro RJ70 to do the LUX-LCY route. This is probably due to the fact that Luxair is also using a jet to compete against them.

Anyway, in case they like the Avro they might take a few of them :) Wishful thinking I know ;)

Chris
