I think it’s a great move. Even though Nikola Tesla was Serbian our country doesn’t have much things devoted to him. We have a museum Nikola Tesla (where his ashes are stored) we have in our 100-dinar currency note and that’s about it. An airport would be a great idea. Well done a petition was also set up mongst Australian Serbs, American Serbs and Canadian Serbs.

Nikola Tesla was a respected scientist and I think he deserves this. His name will go along with Belgrade Airport very well.

i agree that more is needed in Nikola Tesla's name. P.E Aerodrom Beograd has confirmed that Beograd - Surcin International Airport will soon be called Beograd Nikola Tesla International Airport.

I remember a JAT DC10-30 being named Nikola Tesla, i think YU AMA or YU AMC. Will they do it again with the new B762's that is scheduled to arrive on February 15th?

Well its great that the airport got an new name but i think that beg airport should work harder to deserve this name. when you arrive and see this gloomy airport then you don´ t think about nikola tesla. When this almost decade long renovation will end then they should name the airport after him not now.

yep.

horizon, yes i totally agree with you. They should complete the renovations, but the renovations will be for a couple of years. They are building another terminal, another runway, and a large cargo facility, and a hotel from what i know. I think they want it for the 150th anniversary.

Why Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport

Post by Galemos4 »

Well for a few reasons. As said it’s the 150th year of Tesla and Serbia announced that 2006 is the year of Tesla. As also said above Belgrade Airport starts construction with a hotel and business centre and a cargo terminal this year. Next year starts construction with terminal 3 in order for it to be complete for the Universide Olympic Games in 2009.
I also heard on TV that Belgrade will start construction of a tower called Tesla. It’s Teslomania in Serbia :D

The airport should have been renovated at least one year ago and maybe it will take 1 more year to finish the work with both terminals. The customs and police want an reconstruction of the waiting area and transit area for passengers-the want in and outgoing passengers to be separated so it is going to take some more time. And of course if they are going to bring the metro to the airport before 2010 then they have to hurry up.
