Cheapest fares to San Francisco?
Hello All,
I want to go to San Francisco for about a month in either September or October. I'm looking for the cheapest possible fare and am very flexible about connectons/airlines/departure airport... So far the cheapest I found was on the Connections research engine which gave me 435Euros all incl on Delta for various dates in Sept and Oct. Can anyone beat that?
I'm very interested to see how all you aviation fans go about in booking your flights. So keep the advice coming in. Let the competition begin!
No rules, as I said I'm very flexible on travel agent/terms and conditions/dates...
Just two conditions : the stay must be maximum 1 month (either Sept or Oct) and the price must be from Brussels (even if there is a connection to another european airport).
Thanks alot.

I always check out the connections website as well !
Cheapest fares you'll find on KL, AF, BA, LH will be around 600+ euros so if price is really that big an issue I'd go with DL.
Personally I wouldn't do it because I HATE having to clear my luggage at first point of entry in the US, run to catch my connecting flight...
Unless of course you have 2+ hours inbetween flights.
just my 2 eurocents
regards
Bob
P.S: found some nice fares on continental as well: just under 500 euros.
departing from BRU, 1 stop in EWR, enough time inbetween flights. Just check it out

San Francisco is always worth a travel! That's is a good idea to go there! A recommendation I have gotten from an US citizen living here in Europe is:
http://www.icelandair.com/
Of course flying with them requires a stop in Rejkjavik. Which is not a bad thing, because you could decide to have an additional day there to see the city! check on your own, they have also a Dutch site (but not a Belgian) and their offers start from EUR 260 to go to JFK (from AMS) I do not know, if AMS is also OK for you since it is very close to Brussels:

(minimum stay one weekend and maximum stay 3 months) they once had direct connection to SFO, but not today, maybe you can find some offers maybe not ... maybe you decide to take a low-fare from NY if possible? good luck and let us know!

If you fly BRU-JFK-SFO on Delta you will have Song to operate the JFK-SFO part of the trip. I have done that trip in 2004 and the JFK-SFO flight was bad if you compare it with the other flight of that trip I made. Be aware that it is a 6 hour flight on a B757-200 with a very small distance between the different seat rows. And also no free catering, just a can of soda and a bag of pretzels. So far the cheapest I found was on the Connections research engine which gave me 435Euros all incl on Delta for various dates in Sept and Oct.
It was a bad experience that flight for me, it was probably because I had first the 8 hour BRU-JFK flight and that I was probably tiered.
If you fly trough Atlanta it will probably be 2 times a B767.
If you fly in this time of the year, January-February, you most fares are 400-500 euro's on all the carriers.
Greetz,
Dave
Thanks to all for the replies.
Bob_Marcotte, I tried continental but didn't find the fares talked about. I will have another look.
Lastrow, I definitely will give Icelandair a look. Only one thing worries me is above the fare from AMS to NY I will have to add the trip to AMS and then the ticket from NY to SFO. I might come out to be just as expensive, if not more.
Also I wanted to fly on the B767. It's the only common widebody I've never been on so I'm really keen to feel the unique 7 abreast configurations. A stop over in Iceland could be nice.
Hang on, to come to think of it I recall having read somewhere that Icelandair have acquired a B763ER and are starting SFO soon. Can anyone confirm? That would be great.
Liebensd, the fare I saw was from BRU to ATL so no Song service and hopefully the full Delta service.
Regards

well maybe icelandair is also not a good option compared to your delta offer . shame on me as well

... I have checked the fares right now and from Frankfurt (Dutch is hard to undrestand when it comes to booking
to SFO with a stop in Island: it comes at least at EUR 450,- . also this special fare is valid only from April to June. Looks like there are no special fares to the west cost with iceland air at the moment. As a last idea I would try to check iceland air's flight to Minneapolis / St. Paul, maybe it is easier to get on to SFO from this airport since it is more westwards.
