Would a Hummer resist this blast?

They should have used a car with a Caravan, last episode in the last half hour of it they destroyed 2 caravans, one they dropped a wrecking ball onto, and one they jumped 2 cars onto it.

I don't think Virgin Atlantic had to pay for it, it's commercial value. But I have my doubts as well: in the movie the titles on the aircraft and tail are blurred. Why?

Pay for what exactly?

Well I would like to know the commercial agreement between them....

In my opinion this was again a publicity stunt from Virgin. Think about it Clarkson is a well known but also a very controversial man. doesn't Virgin have the same characteristics?

So in my opinion it was just a win-win situation. Clarkson provided the cars from a scrapyard and the film crew, Virgin the plane :)

Yes but it must have cost them quite some fuel, not much given how much a 747 typically uses, but probably quite a lot anyhow.

If you look closely they only operated two of the four engines.

@ vinnie-winnie

Guess that you don't actually watch Top Gear then! The presenter was Richard Hammond not Jeremy Clarkson who is the tall one ( height difference of about 30 cm between them).

If you ever do watch TG ( Sundays 21.00 CET BBC2) you would know that each progreamme has a light-hearted segment of which this was one from quite some time ago. TG is entertainment unlike many motoring programmes so you must expect some off-the-wall stuff (like driving a Rolls-Royce into a swimming pool) and this was no different.

The "serious item last week was a race between an Audi and a rock climber - do the math!!! Also the "star in a reasonably priced car" where celebrities race a Suzuki Liana round the TG track is way too sensible. The whole programme is meant to be fun and should be seen in that light.

@ concordino!

Fair enough was talking about Clarkson instead of Hammond! But you must know that Top Gear wouldn't exist without the massive Ego of jeremy Clarkson!

Think u were a bit quick to judge but anyways test my knowledge of the program by PM if u dear!we're getting a bit off-topic there!

Anyways no offense taken

didn't they said that if they run the 4 engines for more then 20 secs fullpower they ripp up the runway, or did it misunderstood it :? ?

Anyway, good excuse if you come home and you have to tell your dad that you have crashed his car :D 'Hi dad, remember your car, well, at EBBR I had a minor close encounter with a 747 landing on the 25L"
If you can count the blades of my engines while they work, you are too close to be save

No, I think you are right. They cannot hold the brakes on and full throtle, and i expect that big airliners like A330, MD-11, 777 are the same.
