What is your relation with 'Aviation'?

Post by Zorba »

A new step to know all of you, I wonder what your guys (and girls) relation is with Aviation? For example :

-Are you are a pilot?
-Are you just an aviation enthousiast?
-Are you a spotter?
-etc

My connection with aviation is not just one thing.

I have family connections - my Grandfather and Uncle both served in the RAF. I grew up visiting airshows and airports.

I enjoy aviation as a passenger - I just like flying basically, and being able to visit the flight deck was a superb experience.

I enjoy spotting (though not collecting registrations unless I am actually going on the aircraft) and photographing and (more often) video-ing aircraft.

I am interested in the technical aspects of aviation.

I enjoy reading books and magazines on aviation, and also watching TV programmes and videos.

I enjoy aviation discussion forums, such as this one and my pride and joy over on Yahoo! because for me it is the only way I get to discuss things with people with the same interests.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

For the moment I'm a manager in a retail store and offcourse I'm a aviation freak.
I follow everthing that's connected with the world of aviation.

But, in the near future I'll probably look for a job in the aviation world.
My dream is to become a ATC (air traffic controller). But if this doesn't work I'll look for something else...
Who knows... maybe one day...

For me civil aviation is a passion. I like to travel by plane, I go spotting on regular basis, often at Amsterdam. I am member of a flightsimclub in Bruges. For the moment they are building a new sim but it will be almost like the real thing ( B737NG ) www.vdbroeck.net
I built model planes on scale 1/144, I read civil aviation magazines. My favourite is "Airways". I have all Sabena videos from the series "Flight in the cockpit" from justplanes and the DVD from the sabena 747-300 and the SLR 738 from "worldairroutes"
And off course I draw planes.
Next week a regional TV station is coming to film me for a 5 minutes program about people with a special hobby or passion.
The station is RTV only for people of Mechelen and the "Kempen"
So I am becoming a "famous Belgian"

I will tell what my passion is :

I'm, offcourse, an aviation freak, I'm a spotter, and pilot in spé (don't know how I can say this in English), I'm planning to go to Schiphol and Heathrow to spot the big birds ... And I hope to meet many people from Luchtzak

I became interested in aviation about a small year ago. Especially the aspects of running an airport or airlines interest me.

Maybe i'll look for a job in the aviationindustry in 1 year, when i graduate. Although i still haven't made up my mind, because hard to change it later, because you are immediately in a "specialised" direction, when in aviation.

For now i just like flying and i try to do that as much as often, whenever i need to go somewhere far and i have the budget for it (studentsbudget, you see... :( ).

Now i have apllied for a studentsjob at brucargo, through Randstad (interimoffice), so i hope that i'll have the chance to work there from time to time! Cross your fingers for me, guys (and girls of course too :) )

Bye,

Pieter

Well i'm mad about aviation since i'm 1 year old  . It is due to my father who worked before for Sabena as Station manager and now for SNBA. I always lived in africa (Egypt, Uganda, Rwanda, Mali, Burkina Faso and now here in Sénégal). I also fly as private pilot, and i hope i'll become a pilot, i can't do anything else :P .
So that's it ...

See you

I am a frequent flyer for work :) ( I am a management consultant)

I have been flying annually 150,000 miles on average for the last 10 years.

First 4 years when I was living in Brussels, lots of SN flights: have seen the desastrous alliance with AF : strikes, lost baggage, delays, unfriendly staff, 747 flights with 20 people on it; afterwards I have seen SR take over SN. I am sure nobody will believe me but in the beginning SN turned for the better under the guidance of SR; service improved a lot and flights were much fuller than before.

Then I moved to the states; and one of my first clients, I worked for, was a East Coast based airliner: I designed improvements to computers systems managing loads, plane balances, yield, hub-banks,... I never enjoyed working some much before in my life, I had no idea things were so complex in the airline industry. I had the change to visit flights ops a couple of times, it was unreal : a big screen showing all the their planes
on a world map, data being fed by ATC radars.
I totally fell in love with the industry :)

I hope to one day work in the airline industry (when the industry stabilizes) ;)

Everybody who has read this forum only once knows that I started my career at Sabena in ... 1966, making me probably the oldest (let's say the least young...) member of Luchtzak.

Other than that, like every young boy, I wanted to become a pilot but choose to have a safer job (chemical engineer) before, and than had to work for my bread.

In my later jobs, I became a very frequent traveller, mainly on Sabena (hundreds of flights), with some very nice experiences: Japan, South Africa, tens of times to the US, eastern Europe before the fall of the wall, etc.

Always enjoyed it, and not likely to stop soon.

My first steps in aviation was in 1983, when I started as a jobstudent. I got a contract with passengers service in 1985, and went to operations in 1987 where I still am (and like it)

I think this is a very good idea for a forum and find that every "Luchtzak" member needs to tell about his relationship to aviation. A perfect way to learn more about each other :D

So let's start with my "aviation relationship".

It started about 45 years ago, reading the "Buck Danny" strips, dreaming about becoming a pilot too and choosing at the age of 18 to join the Belgian Air Force. After many years in a technical- and later an administrative job in BAF, some 15 years ago, due to my photographic knowledge, I became the "official photographer" of BAF, responsible for all the aerial photography.
If before I hardly had flown in an aircraft other than a commercial one, I now totalize about 3.000 Hrs in more than 70 different kind of aircraft from Bi-planes and warbird till F-16 and flights with almost all the aerobatic teams in the world.

After my retirement from BAF last January, I started my own aviation business, providing every photographic need and PR service to aviation companies, aircraft owners, and aviation enthusiasts.

Beside all this, being air race addicted since many years, I do some PR work for some of the air race teams, and as member of the Commemorative Air Force I spend a lot of time in the USA as CAF flightcrew member on the only flyable B-29 "FiFi", and the B-24 "Diamond Lil"

As you see "aviation" is not just a relationship but is a big part of my whole life, and I just love it that way. :D :D :D
Keep 'Em Flying !!

It's exactly the same for me

I'm currently studying Engineering in Louvain-la-Neuve and hope to be a mechanical engineer in 4 years. After that I'll do everything to work in the aviation industry.
Hopefully I'll have my ATPL one day

Working for KLM (or do I have to say Air France now) until 1st quarter next year.
I will loose my job due to all this mess inside KLM together with 5000 collegues.
I am searching for something else inside the aviation industry but it's not easy at this moment.
