Hello

(can't be so detailed as usual because couldn't read many registrations of planes , but I taught it might be interesting for people who like to know something about kleine Brogel and it's traffic.)

Today we went to the military airbase 'Kleine Brogel' with school.

Really nice visit. We had a visit to the engine shop , the survival part (ACE II eject seats , parachutes etc...) , arming (really cool bombs like AMRAAM , Maverick , Laser Guided bombs up to 2 m long and containing 4000lbs TNT )and other cool stuff as Snakeye bombs and Cluster bombs and of course the big gun/canon of the F-16 and the bullets. , further we visited the Maintenance. Following planes where at the maintenance.

7x F-16 (wherefrom I think two F-16 twin seaters)
1x Puma (Koninklijke Luchtmacht)
and a Panavia Tornado wich stood across the maintenance section and left later on the day.

Then we also visited the tower and the RAPCOM radar section. And we saw a engine test run. This one was operated by a operational F-16 wich was going to give us a private display later. Where I stood (next to the guiding officer), I was standing 1m away from the wing , when the F-16 started up , and performed a test run of all systems , (engines on) IMPRESSIVE!!!!

Further it was a hell of a noise to see 5 F-16 taxiing everywhere around you with engines on Idle (only 8-10m away from us).

And of course as told we got a private display of the Belgian Demo Pilot. Jos ......(I forgot the second name...forgive me...

) FANTASTIC!!!!! Wish I could only have taken some pics (was forbidden) , nice stunts on low altitude (under the afternoon clouds) and full afterburn on.+smoke pods...also some very nice famous 'vortex cones' infront of the plane. And a VERY HIGH SPEED pass by and a very low speed pass by with the nose almost right up the sky. IMPRESSIVE!!! My best congrats to the pilot. Further also some 6 other planes passed by our nose that time.

One of it we could see on taxi , right next to the bus (20m) and the same speed! GREAT!!! It was the Special colored FA-27 if i'm not mistaking(?).

And than the bus driver did something shocking. He did a real heavy moment summary offence (verkeersovertreding). Even on a normal road he would have been in fault....never heard of primacy from the Right??? Well , this guy mustn't ever heard of it

So he was driving and he wanted to cross the taxiway. Notice that 50m removed of us a F-16 twin seater was taxiing with a speed about approx. between 60 and 70km/h right towards us. The bus driver wanted to go right before the F-16 to cross over the taxiway...but almost halfway the taxiway he had to drive backworths very fast. A collision between bus and aircraft was just avoided. You had to see those pilots looking weird (was in front of the bus) , would have done the same. But actually funny afterworths. And it proves that some bus drivers have no ideo of traffic rules. Even in a normal alldays' situation he would have been in fault. The plane had primacy from the right.

I guess either moran could have guessed that aircrafts ALWAYS have primacy! Or was he really thinking that the plane was going to wait nicely and let us going over BEFORE him?

Well anyway , it's another weird experience to tell further.

So I at least saw THIS planes (a lot of planes without registration , because they are adventually SO small in comparison with planes I use to see at BRU

FB-10 BAF F-16twin (almost taxiway accident with bus)---Take -off
FA-36? display
FA-27 taxi & take off
FA-111 (maintenance)
FA-133 (maintenance)
FA-33 taxi & touch-and-go's
3x SIA marchetti take-off
Panavia Tornado (take off) RAF?? (could see any flag or sign on the tail , but he was light-grey colored)
Puma Koninklijke Luchtmacht

And somewhat another 10 F-16's (as well twins as single seaters)

And old statics: Silver F-104 starfighter
camouflaged F-104 starfighter
camouflaged F-84 Thunderstreak
and another old jet (forgot the name...really old guy...grey coloured)

After all very nice day and very nice display!!!

Hello,

A great story to read, your schooltrip. I can imagine you had a great day at Keebee.

I have one little remark about the serials of the F-16's FA27/33/36. Those F-16's are all stored at Weelde or being broken up at Rocourt, so the serials are probably miss read

. The lowest serial of a Belgian F-16 which still flies is FA-56.

I would also love to have ones a school visit like that

Idd , was a great day. First time at Kleine Brogel , never been there before , and first time I really spot fighters at the airbase (except at an airshow

)

If you want to do a visit like that with school. Come to 'Vliegtuigtechnieken'at the 'Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt 94' Antwerpen

:D , you also come 1 day a week to Antwerp airport and you get a flight in the 5th year (type still unknown...sometimes VLM Fokker F50 , or private Piper...or who knows what this year....:p) around Antwerp...and hopefully we will also visit the SN Technics in March when there will be a Avro C-check there.

Funny about the serials , was already thinking I forgot something. Guess every reg needs an 1...before it I guess , so it becomes...133/136/127..etc?

Could that be? One REQUEST; WAS it INDEED the 127 than wich has a special color scheme on the tail with blue?

Great to hear you will have other interesting visits

I am currently following school (also aeronautics) at the KHBO of Ostend. We also had some great visits (SNBA technics, EAT, Le Bourget, Ostend airport,...) and last year we also had a flight with a Cessna. So I can't really complain

About FA-127, to my known this F-16 is from Florennes and has no special markings. The one you saw was probably FA-134 which has a blue marking on the tail. See picture: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/909466/L/

Well , success than in your studies at OST Tompie!

Nice pics and thanks for the correction and the searching work!

Now don't shoot me but....

...it was ANOTHER F-16 than any I've seen now on the pics really!!

Now I taught I saw the FA 27 (later it seemed I was wrong and that it should had to be the FA-127? by than???) but It could be that I mistaken him for another one , although he was really close. So I might missed the number but...the tail was complete blue and looked quite recently painted. So could it be that it was a newly painted one wich isn't photographed yet??? And BTW , why couldn't it be a Florennes based aircraft? Maybe he was there for the paintshop , maintenance or any other reason. After all there was a Tornado too so.

Wish I could have taken a pic of that 'blue beauty' but it was strictly forbidden to take cams with you

, would have been easy than. Just showing the pic and the mystery was gone

. Maybe it IS more pleasant that it is a mystery.

But I will find out wich plane it was. So in the case that I am right!

Spotters! Catch that Blue Bird. Surprise me!

normally it's based at Florennes, but it is spotted several times lately at KB wit a "TIGER" callsign ; so maybe it has been ( temporally ? ) transferred to 31 sqn

the demo pilot you saw was John Vandebosch. Great guy! Met him at the airshow in Koksijde. Amazing display there too. Especially from my point of view (on top of an F16)

Got great pics and movies of that!

Don't quite get the whole traffic accident thing, don't understand what happened exactly...

Indeed. It could be that he was flying for the '31 Tigers' , because he was at their territory that day

. Too bad the 'Tiger' coloured black F-16 doesn't fly anymore (in that colours). At least the Van from the tigers was still in that colors.

Idd. John Vandebosch. Great pilot! And it looked kind a sympatic someone. But that's something I personally can't confirm. After all we didn't really had the time for a chat. Too bad.
