Wizz Air – 2 million tickets sold !!!

Post by Dude320 »

Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced today that it sold its 2 millionth ticket today. The announcement comes just 6 months after the airline sold its first million tickets in late February.

Wizz Air has achieved a record number of 196 289 passengers in July and load factor up to 90% over the past four weeks. Forward bookings indicate even higher numbers for August as well as 20% increase in load factor for September and October compared to the same period last year.

Following Wizz Air’s launch in the second quarter of 2004 in Poland and Hungary, the airline now accounts for 38% and 26% of market share in the low cost airline sector, respectively, making Wizz Air the largest low cost carrier in these markets as well as in Central and Eastern Europe. Having started its operations in late May 2004, Wizz Air has already turned into profitable operations this summer.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: ‘Wizz Air is well on track to carry its 2 millionth passenger by mid-September, achieving its second million in just over 6 months. The airline has been performing outstandingly well financially and according to the highest operational standards. Profitable operation, ever strengthening cash flow, lowest unit costs, 82% on-time performance and above 99,7% technical dispatch reliability of our young Airbus A320 fleet - both well above European average – give us a significant advantage over our competitors in the region. Undoubtedly, Wizz Air is winning the game in Central and Eastern Europe.’

I wish you very well, WizzAir, but speaking of winning the game while Ryanair is just entering the CE-European markets (late, but en-masse) is a bit premature, it seems to me. Let us see the development in next few months, I'd suggest.
