Ryanair: future in Charleroi still uncertain

The future of Ryanair on the airport of Charleroi is still uncertain. Not the price for using the airport, traffic-rights, are the problem but the sound restrictions are the problem. Ryanair wants to expand at the airport, but expanding are more airplanes and then they are above the limit of 6000 points per year.

If they want to expand, the Walloon government has to change this "plafond".

This will be a difficult decision if you know the problems with Zaventem.

BTW: the airport of Ostend confirmed that Ryanair has paid their debts to the airport.

fftopic: I know that EasyJet was talking with BIAC, but this was months ago, for future flights. Somebody knows how this was ending? I think it's a no go.

EasyJet to Brussels...? I'd be shocked to see that happen, imagine what would happen to SN if there was competition on the routes. EasyJet would win all the time.

But Ryanair just acquired brand new 737s!
I would have thought they were up to the best 'state of the art' standards concerning noise thresholds requirements ?
Or are the region'sl noise limitations inappropriately fixed?
Anyway it is not normal to restrict a/c movements when they are of recent technology.

The Waloon government realise how Ryanair is lucrative to the Charleroi region and beyond.

I understand that noise from aircrafts is a big public issue but the Waloon government shouldn't be intimated by local residents like the ones near Zaventem. In Bru, this has lead to serious downsizing by DHL who have moved most of their operations out of Belgium = millions of € lost every year.

In the case of Charleroi, B737's are no way as noisy as the cargo planes used by DHL. The Waloon government should look at what other nearby countries government are doing with regards to air travel. We don't wan't another airport decline in Belgium!

It's really incredible if you read the article.

The point about the noise restrictions are the follow: Charleroi has 6000 point per year, it represent the noise per aircraft for a whole year.
An approach is one point, a take-off is two points. If Ryanair wants to expand the 6000 points are to low.

What is the Walloon minister of "airport business" saying: "if Charleroi wants to expand and we write off the investments we have to see what we can do about the noise restrictions."

About EasyJet: why should they not allowed to come to Zaventem? It's a competitor, ok, but not only for SNBA it's for a lot of carriers.
They expand in whole Europe same like Ryanair. It's a free market.
But I must say that one of the difficult points are the expensive traffic rights for Zaventem. Although I thought that Zaventem is not so expensive.
I can be wrong, but I think that the negotiations are over. These were talks begin this year.

As far as I am concerned, the idal situation would be Ryanair leaving Charleroi, and being replaced there by Easyjet. At least there would be a serious airline in Charleroi with whom to really buid something up, instead of Mr O' Leary's blackmail and insults for the airport authorities to deal with.

I totally agree with U! Ryanair is exploiting its suspected and unsure benefits it brings to bully every one in order to get the maximum out of airports! As a result it gets unfair subsidies and maximum profits! No wonder it is one of the most profitable airlines in the world!

Easyjet at least is quieter, builds up reliable routes which usually are not closed after a few months like ryanair does, and is appreciated by cost consious business and leisure travellers.

But i'm not too worried about ryanair leaving Charleroi! The walloon government will cave in, change the noise limits quietly and provide ryanair what it wants once again!

I know that I would fly Easyjet any day. They are as good as SN anyway.
