Passenger jet skids off runway, in flames at Toronto airport
A Lufthansa passenger jet has caught fire after skidding off a runway at Toronto’s Pearson airport.
I don't no more yet, but will try to keep you informed.
I hope that there aren't any injured......
Chris
EDIT it's reported to be an AF jet.

Damn, this is really sad................
CCN reports that it was an Air France aircraft (A343?) and that it crashed due to severe weather.
On CNN they show live TV, and it looks very bad. I guess that people have died on this flight, the whole fuselage is engulfed in fire. The tail seems to be an Air France one indeed.

Information shows that it was Flight AF358. Currently on fire in the ravine at the end of runway 25L.
It seems that there was heavy rain combined with a severe thunderstorm, with heavy lightning as well. I guess that the runway was very wet, maybe flooded, and that contributed to the cause that the aircraft skidded of the runway (remember AA MD-80 at Little Rock?).

On the German telivision they report that there would have been 291 people onboard (not meaning the maximum capacity, but the people actually onboard).
CNN reports that the aircraft was on landing, when the severe weather moved in very quickly, so that the pilot did not see the danger until it was too late.

One of the pax was just interviewed on tv and said the following.
:" They landed and suddenly when they touched down the ilghts dissapeared in the cabin. Then they veired off the runway into the grass and when they stopped he was the second one to jump in the chute after the FA opened it."
According to media there are many survivors.

Again a sad day in aviation history. Looking to the pictures and reading the news about it, it looks very bad indeed. However some people came out of the plane in time.
My thought are with all the people that had their loved ones onboard this aircraft.
Let's hope all the best for them.
Best Regards,
Yvo
