Indeed.

Qatar has said at the airshow it plans to buy up to 60 Airbus A350's, both -800's and -900's.
They also announced they were likely to order up to 20 B777's, the 777-300ER to be specific.

Other news is that Sky Europe has ordered 16 Boeing B737-700 Blended Winglets Systems with another 16 options.

Great to see that the A350 is finally getting some serious orders, let's hope Airbus will roll on with the project very soon (they announced something like September, because they first needed to solve the problems with the A380).
But 60 aircraft is a lot (ok, Qatar said they will buy up to 60 aircraft), I hope Qatar can fill all those aircraft (considering they will encounter heavy competition from Emirates, who also placed large orders).

I wonder what those massive increase in seats will mean for ticket prices, I guess there will be stiff competition between Emirates and Qatar, because both seem to rely on transfer passengers.

But this news wasn't reall surprising, can't wait for the other news though! :D

That is great news for Airbus. Competition keeps these guys on their toes. Look how it changed Boeing to react. At least Boeing got some 777 orders out of the deal. Good job boys keep the orders rolling in.

cheers,

I must admit I didn't gave Airbus much chance to win this order...

Just goes to show how looks (and forum-discussions) can be way off :D

Congrats to Airbus and Boeing for those orders.

It's really nice to see airlines ordering so many planes.

If you see the current fleet from airlines like Qatar Airways and Emirates ... and 5 or 6 years back ... you see a big growth there so, I think these airlines are going to be as big as an Air france - KLM even bigger I think ... The only thing is that you don't see them order some smaller stuff ...

Congratulations for Airbus :!: I must say I was a little bit sceptic about the A350, it was not a smooth start, but they are rolling now. Who will follow :?:

Yes, good thing for Qatar and Airbus. I am pretty sure that many more
orders will follow for the A350 once it is launched in September this year ! :D

Could anyone give a preview of the A350? Because i have no simple thought how it will look.

Thanks!

As fars I know it'll be very similar with today's A330's.

In general, it will look like the todays A330's, just lighter (okay, you can't see the difference from the picture).

Wasn't it that the reason why this type came not off the ground? It's very similar like the A330, of course with the newest technology etc. Maybe the new operators wanted a new design.

Truth is, Airbus does not know (yet) what the final look of the new craft will be. The A350 s external lines will not be frozen for at least another year and a half.

Boeing initially showed frivolous lines for its 787 and had to draw back and return to more traditional (boring EMB-190 look-alike) external lines.

Airbus has taken the right attitude here. I wouldn't mind if the A350 ends up looking like the 330 anyways. It is by far the most gracious aircraft ever designed IMO.

Cheers from Montréal!
