Skyeurope flies to Dublin;do Ryanair and Airlingus retaliate

Post by The_Dutchman »

Skyeurope announced a few days ago it would start flying from Bratislava and Krakow to Dublin.

Dublin is ryanairs homebase, after this ryanair announced to start flying to poland more (not in direct competition with skyeurope) and to fly twice daily from london stansted to Bratislava (which is skyeurope's homebase)....

Today Air Lingus (Ireland), also announced it would start to fly from Dublin to Krakow, and the funny thing is that they fly on exactly the three same days of the week as skyeurope...

I thought this was pretty funny, and am wondering if the actions of Ryanair and air lingus are really to retaliate, or did they already plan those flights and for some reason they just announced them a bit earlier?

your opinions please :)

I think that RYR was already planning to fly there. They have been recruiting in poland a lot in the last 9 months and I even think that they want to open a base there in the near future. Also Bratislava was planned. We are going to fly from hahn to bratislava as well, also to Gdansk and Rzesow and that was known before they announced the stansted routes there. So i think RYR is just doing what they planned to do all the time.

Competition is the name of the game and will keep fares cheap. We need more of such moves.

Everybody's knows that O'leary's mouth is too big. It's not because he says this that he is not planning to fly there. As long as it makes money RYR flies there.

But really who cares if his mouth is to big, He is providing us all with the option of flying around Europe very cheaply.

I Expect Ryanair to easily win if these 3 battle on the same route. Some People dont like O'Leary and Ryanair (Usually legacy carrier obsessives) but he is a clever man and the Airline provides alot of ppl who are not so wealthy the chance to explore europe.

Thanks Fr! 8)

Does anyone remember the Dublin - Edinburgh case? Go (later mergered with Easyjet) announced a new Edinburgh - Dublin route. Ryanair immeadiately reacted with their own Dublin - Edinburgh route. Go had to withdraw a few weeks later because Ryanairs fares were to low.
Ryanair consider Dublin as their homebase, and they want no competition there.

The same way Ba do at Heathrow, Alitalia do at Milan, Air France at Paris . . . Just logical.
