Going to Florida ... what do you advise?

Post by Zorba »

Hello,

This summer we are planning to go to the US, Florida. We should start by going to Cape Cannaveral. Our plan was then to go north-west to New Orleans.

Can someone give me advice about some nice things who are on my route? Would be very helpfull!

Thanks a lot!

Depends what you're into. If you like theme parks then there is a Universal Studios in Florida, and if it's like the one in LA it would be a good day out. If you like animals then I think there is a Sea World, but I have only experienced the one in San Diego.

When I visited Florida in 1978, I visited Disney World, Sea World, Cape Canaveral, the Everglades (a marvelous national park) and many other places. The 4 places I mentioned first are the ones I woud recommend.

New Orleans is nice also. There is a sunset festival downtown on Saturday nights. Its like a mardi-gras every week.
The Universal and sea-world are smaller than the one in SanDiago, but if you've never been there than you wouldn't know... still loads of fun.

X-prise, is the public still allowed to view the shuttle launchs from Kennedy?

Hi,

I think I know some good tips for your vacation. I've been twice in FL so I know my way around.

At this time I'm a bit too busy but I'll give you some tips asap.
But Cape Canaveral is a good choice! We visited it the last day I think. I'll take a look at our planning trough FL and let you know the good things.

A trip to Florida and no visit to Miami! You've got to go to one of the best airports in the world for variety, whether you're a spotter or a photographer.

Hi, I'm back.

The first year to FL we went to the disney parcs like "animal kingdom", epcot, magic kingdom and MGM studios. It was fun but we're not die hard fans of theme parks either, so I doubt I'd go a second time. It was a very short vacation that year because my father got a brain aneurysm and we had to pack our bags to the hospital. One good advice: have a good insurance and you'll get excellent medical care!

Then 2 years later we decided to make the trip we couldn't make...
Starting in Orlando. We had a visit to Hubbard House near the ORMC to thank those people again for their support and we gave them nice belgian chocolates too. :)
But you can skip that part! Uuhmm I don't know the route in the exact order but we went Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Fort Myers. Than direction to Naples. I can't say what we've done at those specific places. We drove trough the Everglades resort but we didn't stop.
Key Largo was next, where we had a good meal by a mexican restaurant. :) We also had a visit to a dolphin parc. (can't remember the name)
Next leg was to Marathon and Key West. Very touristic and crowdy place. And we had a lot of rain too. I think we drove to Ft. Lauderdale after that. we did some sightseeing to watch all those dream houses near the water. I don't know if it interests you, to see some glitter and glamour houses?
At the end of the trip we arrived at Cocoa beach. We went to the Cape 2 days. First day we hadn't enough time to do the complete program so we came back the next morning. We took the guided tour trough the space center. We had a nice view of space launch complex 37, we passed the assembly building. I also saw the thing (can't remember the name) which moves the shuttle over that long pad.

For so far my trip. Probably I forget to say alot of things... :?
But if you got any specific questions, ask me and I'll ask my mom.

greets

If you had read the first post of the topic then you would see that Airbus_fan is saying they will be going up to New Orleans.

Off course you have to see Miami.
From there take the Tamiami trail ( that's direction Tampa ) ( via Calle Ocho = the Cuban quarter ) to the west coast. You'll drive through the Everglades and can make a ride on a airboat and see some alligators from real close.
I even got to hold a baby alligator. Take the biggest park you see at the left side of the road, you'll recognize it by the amount of busses standing there.
And enjoy driving around in the Sunshine State: very calm compared to our dangerous roads. But be careful for "vallende sterren"
When you visit MIA airport go to the roof of the airport hotel. There you have a nice view of the AA ramp.
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."

that's right! you must go to Miami! last December i went there for a week! is wonderful! you must visit Miami if you are going to Florida. you can go to South Beach (shops, many, many nightclubs and restaurants some are own by Madonna, Gloria Estefan...) you must also go to the Everglades (wonderful park) and Little Havana- Calle Ocho (Cuban culture and and historic area). Also Miami is just 5 hours from Orlando (Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, Island of Adventure...) believe me you will love it!

Visiting Florida and all I hear is almost Miami, what a shame.
I go almost every year to Florida since 1990, take this tip:

Skip Miami and hit the brakes in Fort Lauderdale which is called the Venice from Florida ;)
ps. I'll go there next month!
