TAP to acquire 20% of Varig

A merger between the Portuguese State owned Tap Portugal, and the Brasilian State owned Varig, may come as an oportunity for both countries to start the process of privisation of both companies creating a strong link for the South American market to the European Market.
The new Portuguese Socialist party is keep to make the new Lisbon Airport into a major hub for the Iberian Pennisula. Creating a merger by the two may have great intrest for both countries especially Portugal.
The greatest obsticule being the great fleet differences. Tap being a sole Airbus operator and Varig a Boeing/MD operator.
It is also intresting that the Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates is on oficial state visit to the Brasil and will be meating up with Lula Da Silva.
