Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news
I wondered the same. Didn't we get reports of good load factors, which ought to mean commercial success?
Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news
I checked the FlyBe site, and it indeed shows that there are no flights available after the 25th of october. Sad, but true...jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑20 May 2019, 16:54 I wondered the same. Didn't we get reports of good load factors, which ought to mean commercial success?

Weird, maybe they are late to load the flights in their booking system? Don´t think so.pitrixplanespotting wrote: ↑20 May 2019, 18:42 Weird, maybe they are late to load the flights in their booking system? (hoping)
BE is still underway in its restructuring and that route is not the last one to go for sure.
They likely have set a comparably high threshold (for keeping a route) where ANR-LGW just doesn´t perform as required.
Even if ANR-LGW is not loosing money the yield may still be not as solid as required ...

You mean ANR-SEN. There's no flights from Antwerp to Gatwick.MHG wrote: ↑20 May 2019, 19:22Don´t think so.pitrixplanespotting wrote: ↑20 May 2019, 18:42 Weird, maybe they are late to load the flights in their booking system? (hoping)

May I be allowed some doubt, here, too? If even the champion of "low but sustainable profit" Ryanair has to warn shareholders for "limited profits in the next few years", how can any airline operator willingly give up any route that turns up a profit, however marginal?the yield may still be not as solid as required
I cannot help wondering if there isn't some kind of understanding - after all, the market from Antwerp was never big.

Hi,
Well Maybe it's just simple...
SEN isn't LCY, it's not good enough connecties with thé city...
Biz. People won't just fly SEN instead LCY..
That's it, SEN is like STN leisure London only..
And An ATR doesn't fill up that easy on low yield servings..
F50,ATR42 with a high yield double daily LCY makes much more sense !
Therefor ... KLM to LCY
OH air Antwerp !
KL flightnumbers ?
CXB

Not a surprise, but unfortunately: the Belair bar-restaurant ("Belair Deurne nv") has been declared bankrupt on 6th June 2019.

Also a big surprise for me. Today is full of those surprises. Pitty because they had a good kitchen.

It looks like the city wants to kill its airport. Not very smart!PttU wrote: ↑19 Jun 2019, 10:12 https://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20190618_0446 ... luchthaven

It looks like the city wants the taxes it imposes and thinks has a right to it. Not very stupid!sn26567 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2019, 11:28It looks like the city wants to kill its airport. Not very smart!PttU wrote: ↑19 Jun 2019, 10:12 https://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20190618_0446 ... luchthaven

But the media picks this up and the opponents of the airport use this to act infuriated. See also the last paragraph of the article:
"Sinds de privatisering van de exploitatie van de Antwerpse luchthaven werd er al voor meer dan 80 miljoen euro aan belastinggeld in Antwerp Airport gestoken: 13 miljoen in infrastructuur, 58 miljoen in het bouwen van de tunnel onder de Krijgsbaan om de startbaan virtueel te verlengen en 4 miljoen werkingssubsidie per jaar."
Or google translated:
"Since the privatization of the operation of the Antwerp airport, more than 80 million euros in tax money has been invested in Antwerp Airport: 13 million in infrastructure, 58 million in building the tunnel under the Krijgsbaan to virtually extend the runway and 4 million operating subsidy per year."
Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news
As usual, the GvA is the voice of the Groen! party. Now that Ingrid Pira has not been re-elected, Wouter Van Besien will do the job. I am not sure the city council is fully aware of this dispute, or if it is stirred up by a(n) (over-active) civil servant. Obviously, this tax was never discussed nor negotiated when the LEM/EGIS contract was signed. Unfortunately, as long as Groen! is represented by several journalists in the GvA, we will see more of these articles (before the elections, there was minimum 1 negative article per week). The new ‘Groen!’ focus is now also on cruise ships. In the same edition today, GvA is claiming that no more cruise ships should vist Antwerp... And a few weeks ago they wanted to re-discuss Oosterweel...
