So, this year there will come 2 new A319's (1 official) and 3 B737's will leave the fleet: 1 B733 (OO-LTM for Korongo)and 2 B734's (OO-VEJ and probably OO-VBR).
it was in front of the BA hangar a few days ago, but in the beginning of the week they towed it back in front of the LH hangar. engines are still covered and cockpit windows aswell.
The end. VEJ is in to prepare her to leave the fleet, all BA commercial has to go off etc...
Just found this article on flightglobal : http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... ivals.html
Looks like Bombardier wants to compete with A319. And since SN wants to expand their A319 fleet and Lufthansa has other options on the CS100...
Would SN switch from B737 to CS100???

To have the airplanes on the tarmac. They have to replace their B737's fast and I don't think they will be happy if they need to renew their lease contracts. The same with the Avro's. SN has not the intention the extend the lease contracts again. So the avro's will leave the fleet between 2012 and 2014. The 737's probably earlier. I think they will be gone before 2012/2013.
I think it might be possible to get some aircrafts from other LH group airlines for two or three years to bridge such a gap? LH has quite a number of 737s (-300 and -500) which should leave there fleet too soon (actually most of them are older than the 737s of SN!). So I guess no problem to give some of them to SN if there lease contracts expire for the SN 737s for the waiting time before any new aircrafts arrive? An other option would be that Bombardier could offer some CRJ900 as an interim solution which they might take back after two or three years when the C-Series becomes available? What would be the waiting time for brand new E-Jets from Embraer if they would be ordered sometime this year? Anybody an idea?

Because the contract ends in the comming months, years. An aircraft can be 5 years old and at the end of leasing. And it would be to expensive to update the SN B737's with a new interior and things like that, so it's a better idea to replace them with other aircrafts when their lease contracts end in order of extend the contracts and update the interior... of the B737's.
Yeah, VEK and VEJ are two sisters. Beautifull old ladies...
My dream is to see a fleet of 737NG replacing all the actual fleet, but with the A330's (the best long haul option for the time being, no doubts about that) the A319 looks more rational (at least in term of fleet commonality). Except the price...

I'm really curious about the future...
I think short haul will stay for a while Airbus, but I think that the Boeing 787 is a very good candidate for the A330 replacement for the whole LH group. Maybe a both A350 (the larger variants, replace A340's) and B787 (to replace the A330's and B767/777 for Austrian). The B787 has a lot common with the B747-8, so that would make the B748 in the LH less lonely.
But for short haul, I think the A319 is the best candidate.
Why the A319 would be better than the B737, for SN? I know that the cabin of the Airbus is wider, but for the rest?
I flew a lot as a passenger on these two, and for a comfort standpoint, there is no real differences between them ... More, the 737NG is a real "pure-sang" both in performance and fuel efficiency. Certainly not less than the Airbus
I'm just wondering. I guess the capacity of the 319 would be more adapted...?

Why should SN buy/lease B737NG's, the whole (only a few Austrian B737's) are A32S or will be A32S (the LH B737's will be gone soon). So a verry good reason to choose the A319.
With now 5 maybe 6 A319 already in the fleet anything else than A319 is and should be
out of the question!
Depending crew changes,simulators,technics,maintenance,*A fleet conforming,...
I also prefer B above A but SN should reduce costs so A is far better way for fleet renewal.
The big ask is what's the succesor for the AVRO !
Embraer or CJ (900) ?
What's the first date for the end of the first lease contract that's gonna be scrapped ! (uh bad english I think )
