Maybe a stupid question, but what's to study? The A380 can land, taxi, take off and be handled at BRU. You have an airline willing to deploy the beast on a regular base? Start constructing a second jetbridge capable of reaching the upper level at one of the gates at the very end of the lounges floor (4).. It's not like it's going to cost them a fortune...

It's not only jetbridges etc. At AMS they needed to reinforce the apron, adjustments in the docking system and taxiways (though this may not be appplicable to BRU). Having an A380 once doesn't mean you can have the A380 on a daily basis.Conti764 wrote:Maybe a stupid question, but what's to study? The A380 can land, taxi, take off and be handled at BRU. Re: Emirates A380 is in Brussels on Friday 18th Sept 2015
One additional jet bridge at one gate will not suffice. Generally airports with A380 flights have three jet bridges at one gate, two to the lower deck and one to the upper deck. Then new equipment will be necessary: towing bars, catering elevators capable of reaching the upper deck.
Taxiways will also need to be adapted.
All together, 10 millions euros would be needed to make BRU fully compatible with the A380. Brussels Airport will only spend this kind of money if regular A380 flights are scheduled.

Anyone an idea of the loadfactor of the inbound and outbound flight of the Emirates A380?

A carbon copy from the more general topic about the activities around Brussels Airport on September 18th, but I had a feeling this post was relevant here too:

A few from my side:
A380 Arrival by Thomas
After the arrival, the race was on to get to the gate in time to see the water salute. All the reporters hurried to get back in the bus. Thankfully, the A380 used the entire runway length, which bought us a few extra minutes.

While the aircraft rolled onto the stands (since multiple stands had been blocked for this special occasion), the true size of this monster became apparent. The A380 is, well... HUGE!
Almost there... by Thomas
Once on stand, a few challenging hours began for the ground crews. Cleaning, catering, handling, loading and unloading... The processes themselves aren't exactly different to other planes, there's just more of everything.

I couldn't resist walking underneath the airplane, where I was greeted by this sight:

After the ceremonial gift exchange...

And the cutting of the cake (with questions by the press like "Will this become a daily flight?" to which the answer was no)...
Questions, questions. by Thomas
The press was escorted to the aircraft.

Thanks to Brussels Airport and Emirates for this magnificent opportunity. It's not everyday we can welcome a new type in Belgium, and an aircraft as "exotic" as the A380, is a unique event.

Re: Emirates A380 is in Brussels on Friday 18th Sept 2015
Why the baptising by the fire trucks?
First flight of the airline to BRU --> no
First arrival of this type of a/c in BRU ---> no
They did't do it when UA or AA for example upgraded their BRU-routes from 767 to 777...

First commercial visit of this Aircraft type at BRU, and a special visitor beyond doubt.

Really good pics indeed !
My messages reflect my personal opinion which may be different than yours. I beleive a forum is made to create a debate so I encourage people to express themselves, the way they want, with the ideas they want. I expect the same understanding in return.
