Isn't this more like a seasonal adjustment? KL is also reducing KGL from 6 weekly to 5 weekly in W12 (and 6 weekly again in S13). Or do KL and SN feeling competition from other airlines (doesn't QR fly to KGL?)

Don't know is this is a smart move by SN to start MBA. They go in direct competition with JAF. Plus, to have 2 Belgian aircraft operating into MBA in the same week, seems a bit too much. Curious to see if TC can maintain competitive prices operating SN iso JAF...

It has to do with the refurbishment of the aircraft, no. In Autumn/Winter each month an aircraft will leave and thus frequency was brought down, in Eastern as well as in Western Africa (see airline http://airlineroute.net/).

No conformation yet, only slotrequests, so far from sure at this moment but worth mentioning it:

QR want to add 3 morning flights starting from the winterseason, so a total of 8 flights.
TG want to add 1 extra flight on Sunday, maybe this has something to do with the codeshare with SN

I wonder if the new morning flights add additional destinations to the connection possibilities in Doha?

KL and SN operate EBB with KGL (so 3 weekly). Also British Airways will downgrade EBB from 5 weekly to 3 weekly this winter (compared to 5 weekly past winter). They don't operate to KGL.

SN, KL and BA probably face hard competition from airlines like Qatar (SN doesn't make a secret of it, CEO Gustin often claimed that they see heavy (unfair) competition from middle east carriers in East-Africa and also increasing competition from Turkish Airlines). But I don't think that's the only important reason for all these downgrades. Also seasonal downgrading and with SN (don't know for the others) it's also about the reduced long haul fleet in the winter months due to heavy maintenance and cabin upgrades (before 1 June this wasn't such a big problem as JFK didn't start yet and since 1 June no A330's got the new cabin).

Flights to EDI will be operating on A319 next winter.

Once the flight goes twice daily to include a night stop service, it will be operated on RJ100.

This is, of course, a consequence of the takeover of bmi by BA and the end of the codesharing agreement between SN and bmi.

bmi was using much smaller planes on the route (ERJ145). Isn't SN a little too ambitious with the A319 and the RJ100? (Although I remember having flown to EDI on a SN Sabena A321 many years ago!)

BMI regional will continue to operate on the route as a stand alone airline too, currently still planned trice daily with E-jets.

It seems to me SN is going to try to throw BMI off the route, hence their use of the A319 in order to flush the market with capacity, combined with the rather unconventional formal announcement that the route will go to twice daily 6 months later.

On the other hand: I don't know why they don't offer than schedule right away even?
The launch schedule is lacking on morning and thus longhaul connectivity IMHO.

We already knew SN would cut their daily flight to ATH during W12/13, but apperently they are not the only airline reducing at (or completely pulling back from) ATH:

But SN mentioned very short that they would focus on Africa and the US first before even thinking about Asia? Seems unlikely then though?
