? you believe ?????????? .....at the bottom of the last column there is a (december) mention: I suppose that the Dec. figures are included........ for most of airports, It's already hard to improve last year's numbers and the actual figures show already an impressive progression, so imho it's the final total ! (if not, the town of Liege can build a statue to the airport director, or? )

cargo : +5,89 % with 518.750 tonnes
pax: +20,25 % with 400.281 pax

It clear that cargo suffered from the crisis, the increase is a lot slower than previous years, but still very positive in this context. LGG should stay the 8th biggest cargo in Europe.

Unless the economy recovers from the recession before the end of this year, which is unlikely, figures for 2009 will be well below those of 2007.

TNT, for example, will start phasing out aircraft this year.

Don't count on that. The crisis is for everybody, also for LGG. Even the smaller cargo operators at LGG will suffer more then TNT, El Al, etc.

Hmm, not wrong. Two examples. When we analyse the cargo figures of Brussels Airport and we took only the full freighters and cargo via pax then we see an increase of +11%!! But Brussels Airport has not only those, they have also one big express cargo airline, DHL. Because they transport most of the yearly cargo and with their partly move to Leipzig we saw a drop in the cargo figures.

Second example: LHR. I have no latest cargo figures, yearly figures, of this airport, but LHR was the only airport who shows month after month, during the crisis who started earlier in the UK then in Belgium, an increase of cargo. This was still unexpected.

Ethiopian (6-8 flights/week - 50.000 tons/year) will base 2 MD11F (*)
El-Al is doing great (6-10 flights/week - 60.000 tons/year)
Ukraine International Airlines (5 flights/week, TNT schedule) will get a second 737F (possibly directly connected to kiev)

Business aviation : 2095pax (13.6% of belgian volume).

Ethiopian Airlines are 2 acquire 2 MD11F's in 2009. Not sure of the i.d of the 2 aircraft at this stage but cn 48758 (former TAM PT-MSI) is believed to be the first. It is currently at Venice for freighter conversion, thought originally to be for Aeroflot Cargo. The other 2 former TAM MD11's also at Venice do not currently have a new customer so i guess it would make sense for these to go to Ethiopian or any 2/3.

And they don't speak about the strong decrease of cargo flights of TNT, their biggest customer. Several planes are grounded for an unknown period and a lot of employees are forced to stay at home.

I don't know if, in this press release, they calculated the economic crisis? Will El Al be able to 3 dubble their figures and Ethiopian double their figures?

Time will tell but I have my doubts.

They will not double or triple it, it's the 6 months or 4 months figures put on a one year basis.
TNT is suffering yes (+/- 15%), but this should not impact the growth too much or the airport since there are more and more new customers now.

You cannot compare LGG and CRL. CRL is only a pax airport and LGG is mainly a cargo airport. Also Brussels Airport is not suffering on the LC segment: 600.000 pax in 2007 and 1.100.000 pax in 2008 but they are suffering in the cargo segment. Besides, when you read the release then you could read that there will also a cut in destinations and the number of frequenties will not grow except on two destinations. I think that LGG is feeling the crisis for months already.

Be sure that TNT will have an impact on the LGG cargo figures. With six or maybe more a/c on the ground means that you lose thousands of ton per night and this everyday and every month! Even with new cargo players, there are not announced, they can't increase the figures over TNT.

I think that LGG is feeling the crisis for months already.

Of course LGG is feeling the crisis already !
They had a growth of only 6% when 20% was expected.
Without those new customers, it would have been negative. And I think nothing will change for 2009, we may fallow the october-november-december numbers.

If I remember well, TNT is making between 50 and 60% of the total cargo in LGG. Is it still the case ?
grnkg, any idea of the total trafic of TNT last year ?
