Bookings trough the website www.etihadairways.com are also possible.
I looked for a flight to DXB, around €560. Looks very reasonable to me.

I'm assuming that consists of a flight to AUH and then a bus up to DXB as Etihad don't fly to DXB! Actually it is n;t so far from AUH to DUbai anyway so is pretty good. The only problem will be AUH itself which is really not set up to handle large numbers of passengers at one time - it gets really cramped. They are supposed to be expanding so that should solve that problem.Brubiac wrote:Bookings trough the website www.etihadairways.com are also possible.

Indeed, the transfer to DXB will be done by a busservice.chunk wrote:I'm assuming that consists of a flight to AUH and then a bus up to DXB as Etihad don't fly to DXB! Depending on the time of year and time of flight a 9 hour layover would be ok in AUH. It would give you a good possibility to spend 6hrs on a beach within an hour of the airport! I also know some good pubs in the city...if you have an EU passport (amongst others) then you can basically walk in for up to a month i think.regi wrote:Abu Dhabi airport is a dump. The noise in the dome is hollow. It looks like a refugee center.
The connection Brussels-Bangkok is very unfavourable because of a 9 hour delay in the go flight.
But there is also a Johannesburg flight coming up.
I agree Regi - it does resemble a refugee camp at times when it is busy. When it is quiet however it isn;t a bad place to leave / arrive! I'll let you know next week as I fly in to AUH on KLM on Saturday night.
Thank you Chunk for the update. I had phoned the Brussels office of Etihad to confirm transit time for Johannesburg and Bangkok. Both have the connection the other day.
So I had written off Etihad as a comparable airline for those 2 destinations.
We would not have the opportunity to hit for the beach because it is over night.
The airport hotel at Abu Dhabi is too expensive. The Bahrain facilities are much better in price and way of booking (by 3 hour blocks)
Never mind, I defintiley keep an eye on Etihad because it could be an alternative for the regular airlines.
Keep us informed about your trip to Abu Dhabi.

Which hotel is by the airport at AUH? I have never noticed before...I suspect it is fairly crappy anyway! You are right, BAH airport is quite nice though there is a major lack of food outlets if I remember correctly from my last trip through there a few months ago. For three hours it will be fine I would think.regi wrote:Thank you Chunk for the update. I had phoned the Brussels office of Etihad to confirm transit time for Johannesburg and Bangkok. The hotel I mention is inside the airport building, for which you don't have to leave the transit zone. Similar to the Marriot hotel in Dubai airport. (last time I staid there in Dubai, the small window of my room was just above the entrance from the pier.)
The food outlets in Bahrain are limited. I do remember a hamburger place. And at the end of the pier, there is another self service place.
I think that you can inside the upstairs business lounge if you pay a coupon.

Look for a trip report in Dec on Etihad from YYZ-BRU-AUH-KHI. Very excited to report this on Luchtzak.flightsimboy wrote:Yes that sign would be very welcome for all YYZ passengers and EY crew, not forgetting the very state of the art A330-200's that EY will be flying on the route...
I'll be available in the transit area to sign autographs.....
