4th A330 for SNBA very soon
Moderator: Latest news team
KLM still owns part of KQ so they won't be helping their main competitor (SNBA). KL/AF is doing everything to make life for SNBA more difficult and it seems that they succeed in doing thisWell I don't see Kenya Airways doing codeshare with SN since they are cooperating with Skyteam for the moment. Or are they even member of Skyteam?
ET would be possible but this would mean that SNBA would start service to ADD (a city already well served out of Europe by ET, KL, LH and others) and I wonder if ADD is such a nice place to transfer.
E-ticketing and automated check in are unrelated. One can check in using the automated check in desks (at least at AMS) with a paper ticket and one can still check in the "oldfashioned" way with an E-ticket (which s a big money saver)I have forget to say that SN was one of the first airlines that used the automatic check-in at Zaventem. So they don't used the paper ticket anymore.

KQ is now a Skyteam partner, as Tarom, Copa and Air Europa (not a fully member, see the slight difference...). KL still hold about 26% of KQ.Avro wrote:Well I don't see Kenya Airways doing codeshare with SN since they are cooperating with Skyteam for the moment. Or are they even member of Skyteam?
Seb.
SN BA will use another A330. Maybe they had a lot of trouble with them, but the conditions in Africa are worse then here in Europe or America, that also counts. And it would be very stupid of SN BA too buy another type of aircraft, and pay for the schooling of pilots for the new type.
And the new aircraft was confirmed yesterday on KanaalZ

Tot hier en verder
I must say that you are very strick in your post.
The A330 is not a bad aircraft at all, the only mistake they made was that they received the oldest aircrafts of the former fleet of Sabena. The bankrupt airline Delsey Airlines was flying with newer equipment then SNBA.
About the long haul aircrafts they gone not change them very soon.

But did they actualy find one already .
Because SN is already looking for 4 months (that I know of)so if they keep on going on this pace we won't have another one by the end of the year . Which is to late by my understanding. Because for good competition we need an aircraft now that can be used for other routes and extra flight and not as a back-up while the other ones are being painted and refurbished

As we can believe the news, Kanaal Z, the newspapers, etc then they have a forth aircraft. And indeed they have to use this aircraft for the full 100%, why wouldn't they. They want to use it at the beginning of the summer 2006.
This is plan Africa:
New destinations
new codeshare partners
forth aircraft
But they, SNBA, are also a little bit sceptic about the politics in Africa. They are not reliable. This is a reason for SNBA to touch the market in Africa and surch a good and political stable destination.

Actually, the plan is to have it in the fleet by the end of this year or early 2006. That's not exactly a long-term plan if you ask me...Rago wrote:It's a long-term plan. They intend to get an extra one if they can succesfully use it (=fill it). This could be tomorrow, but it can be in ten years too...

Hopefully they will get a new one! Sounds strange but why not fly to baghdad with it? Plenty of willing customers prepared to pay thousands and thousands of euros! (Would also fill their connection routes from London and America!!!)
Ok I'm half serious here and i know the plane could be shot at but at least we wouldn't have a profitable/non-profitable route debate!!!

None of the Western airlines who do have traffic rights (if I'm not mistaken LH, KL and AZ have traffic rights to Baghdad) to Baghdad currently fly to the airport due to security issues (you don't want to get shot at). Insurance premiums (if one can insure a flight to Baghdad) will be very very high. Basra would be an option but BA has also rights to this airport.Hopefully they will get a new one! As far as I know SNBA hasn't any right to fly to either Basra or Baghdad.

I have no link or anything factual to back up what I am about to tell you, but let's just say an unusually favourable wind blew some higly interesting information my way....
SN will get its 4th A330 Q1 2007.
Unlike the 3 others, It will be an A330-200.
To brigde the time gap between winter 2005 and summer 2007 and to start with the long awaited expantion in Africa, SN is currently reviewing 2 interim possiblilities: wetlease a B767 OR get themselves an A321-200 (which offers more capacity than the A319). Since no final decision has been taken on this matter, the announcement of the lease contract for the 4th A330 has been delayed to coincide and give the complete picture of the future!
Important remark: the reason it will take so long for that 4th A330 to arrive, is supposedly because it is a BRAND NEW ONE!!! (which the leasing company had on order with Airbus but for which they did not yet have a customer)
Sounds pritty cool if you ask me; certainly 1 and possibly 2 new types in SN colours: the A330-200 and A321-200.
