Well said OO-VEX.
Bru has a lot of potential, more than LGE. There are even plans to expand the new Brussels Perishables Center, because to many companies in the neighborhood of the airport are now going to Schiphol. So Bru can attract more business over land.
Languages: in my company we have speak to 4 languages, Dutch, French, English and German. In LGE I have my doubt's.
Like I have said, after DHL are now companies to take over their place. But don't forget it will be smaller companies, all the big one's have already their hubs in our neighbor countries. But small companies are even important.
3 weeks ago, the government makes their plans public about the big ways to and from the airport. Along the Ring around Brussels are coming parallel ways and from the E19 they will make a whole new and big way direct to the airport and Brucargo so that all this traffic not make their way first to the Ring. And when the HST is finished Brucargo will complete on the map.
So, Brucargo has a lot of potential, but their is still a long way to go and first of all, to attract more investors the problem around noise and mobility are to be first priority.
A 2nd National Airport in Belgium, a good idea?

Guys, i have no doubt that brucargo is very competitive.
This is not really the question. It's not a fight between airports to know which one is the best. But as i understood the situation, the aiport of brussels is very badly located very close to the city and therefore is annoying for many people in 3 differents regions controled by many gouvernment which makes the mess even bigger.
I was not trying to tell that LGG is better, first because it's not, and second because it's just an alternative, not something to replace BRU.
LGG has many interesting points and a lot less problems. Because of that, it's for me a very interesting airport and should be analyzed as a possible alternative, as a complementary airport. That's all

You can also see it this way: we have a luxury problem. In fact we have 3 airports for cargo handling: Brussels, Liege and Ostend. Isn't that a luxury position
Bru is not bad located. You can see it this way. In Belgium we have mostly South, Southwest winds that's the direction that the city Brussels is located. In that option it's a problem. But before 1999 it was never a problem, the airplanes flew in the direction of Brussels. But after some time, Brussels makes for it's own noise restrictions, very strong. In the 90's there were very few claims.
You can also say: the landingstrips are bad located and the government allowed to build houses next to the airport. Also today in Steenokkerzeel is recently create a big land for building houses, for about 74 families. That would say: okey we create 74 complainers extra.
At LGG are also actiongroups, not like these here in Brussels but still.
To expand the airport of Liege, houses will be broke down etc. These actiongroups have also take some juridical actions, but that's not known in the press.

As I mentioned recently in a news item, the Walloon government has started implementing a successful anti-noise policy in LGG and to a lesser extent in CRL. They buy houses, they insulate others against noise. This will help dampen the protests of the action groups. BRU is still waiting for such a policy and this could put its future into trouble (see the numerous contradictory decisions by the various courts).
Anyway, Belgiumis lucky to have on its territory the 5th (BRU) and the 9th (LGG) largest freight airports in Europe. I don't know the place of OST...

Yesterday late news: the first stone for the new terminal at Charleroi. They were speaking in terms of a national airport (2nd national airport) for about 3 million passengers a year.
Ryanair announced to have big plans with Charleroi. New destinations, expand existing destinations, they have reserved a lot of new aircraft for Charleroi, etc. They speak to bring 4 million or more passengers to Charleroi.
Also the board of the airport of Charleroi have spoken with SNBA and Virgin to bring some flights to Charleroi. But futher no news about that. I don't think that those two companies having interest in two airports.
If this is not working, they have the intention to attrac more LCC to the airport

At the site of Ostend airport they wrote that they want to be the 2nd national airport. If there are new airlines, they want to welcome those because they have a lot of space at the airport.
In the meantime Mr Landuyt calls the employees, patrons and the millitants to go to the judge and fight for their jobs.

We are a few years away from the "peak oil". It may lay ahead of us or we may have passed it several years ago without knowing it, actually noone knows exactly.
From that point of view and no other you'd have to be out of your mind to start thinking about building a brand new intercontinental airport. Not totally crazy, but insane enough to invest huge amounts of $$$ without knowing how many airplanes will fly in 30 years and at what cost.
