This is exactly what I meant when I said that next year FR ops at BRU will be looking quite differentAtlantis wrote:Some big plans of Ryanair in Belgium. They want to grow with 20% and would like to place a lot more aircraft in Belgium.
Their target is 8 million pax. 6 million via Charleroi and 2 million via Brussels Airport. It seems that this model is working very well for them. They will use BRU to offer more direct flights to big other European cities. They also would like to fly more to Italy, Spain, Scandinavia and Germany out of BRU. Via Charlerloi they would like to offer more flights to the mediterranean.

I wish Ryanair would recommence flights from Brussels to Prestwick or even Glasgow

FR flights to Germany and Scandinavia out of BRU will certainly be quite a challenge for them, I guess... Interesting article anyway...sean1982 wrote:This is exactly what I meant when I said that next year FR ops at BRU will be looking quite differentAtlantis wrote:Some big plans of Ryanair in Belgium. A few excerpts (rpt attn "Passenger" : excerpts)
Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair marketing director, was in Belgium on Tuesday to negotiate new routes with the airport authorities of Brussels. On Wednesday, he will do the same in Charleroi. "We currently have 16 aircraft in Belgium, 4 and 12 in Zaventem Charleroi. But many more will arrive soon," says Jacobs.
The company aims to grow 20% next year in Belgium to reach eight million passengers, six million of them at Charleroi. "The model that we have implemented in your country - with an airport (Charleroi) based more on tourism and the other (Zaventem) on the business runs very well- We now have a 22% share market in Belgium, but we want to quickly reach 30%. "
"From Brussels, we will go more towards large European airports. There will be more flights to Italy and Spain for tourism. For business, the focus is on Scandinavia or Germany, where our market share is still only 4%. "
From Charleroi, Ryanair could offer new destinations to the east of the Mediterranean. There are opportunities in Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and even in Israel. "
Ryanair has renounced "temporarily" to his Russian dream.
Ryanair will grow in Belgium mainly by increasing its flight frequencies. "We have an occupancy rate (85 to 90%) of our aircraft very high in Belgium and increase our frequencies is a real need."
Ryanair does not intend to turn against Belgocontrol, following the power outage of 27 May. "We had losses, but I do not see exactly what we would gain to complain. But we want to be assured that such incidents will not happen again."
Another grievance, reports are denouncing working conditions of the pilots, Ryanair being accused of having a majority of independent. "The other pilot companies want to denigrate us. If our employees were so unhappy they would go elsewhere. But we have far more applications than positions to offer."
Whatever happens, the Irish airline will again break a record this year over 100 million passengers. "We are already the first company in Europe and we will be the third in the world in number of passengers".
Regarding FR PAX figures goal in 2015 :
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines_press_r ... -schedule/
6,9 Mio PAX from both BRU (1,7 Mio) and CRL (5,2 Mio) were apparently announced as target in Feb' for the full year 2015...
The below article today (La libre Belgique) is interesting, as Kenny Jacobs do mention 22% market share for FR in Belgium :
http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualit ... 40d72d3d9a
They want to grow by 20% next year to reach the 8 Mio mark... so it means the 2015 figures of 6,9 Mio PAX won't be that easy to reach this year... (6,9 Mio + 20% = ?!?!)
All in all, we can estimate that SN will take the lead in 2015 but that 2016 will be another "round"...

It's been a long time but I think I can still try and help you with that one: my best guess is...8.28 Mio.brusselsairlinesfan wrote:

I used a small calculator of course!
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Given the fact that some people here report "own estimates" as "figures", I would say: 6,9 Mio + 20% = 15 Mio.convair wrote:It's been a long time but I think I can still try and help you with that one: my best guess is...8.28 Mio.brusselsairlinesfan wrote:

"quite different"...
Well...
Maybe we are meanwhile too spoiled by far more voluminous expansions at BRU these days, but going from 1.6M to 2M passengers per year: that's the equivalent of just about 1(2 maybe) single extra plane(s), no?
While that is a nice little add on, I doubt it is enough to come up with a significant expansion in very frequent routes or set up that mayor business oriented network we've been promised at the very beginning?
So 2016 is again a year of timid growth with the parking brake set firmly on at BRU, it now looks like.
It's a pity because the hardware is apparently readily available to add even more flights to the Mediterranean from CRL, so if you think about it for a second, what Mr Jacobs actually came to say today was that adding these kind of holiday oriented routes -mainly from CRL, btw- somehow has a much higher priority over adding much more of the business type routes from BRU than will only be done???
Allow me to say I am more than just a bit baffled by the -albeit implicit- honesty as well as the weakness of the at BRU as they expect it to continue also over 2016, even if wrapped up in the usual PR talk.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Sure, after all ... What do I know right?
If you call going from 0 to 5 aircraft based and additional aircraft flying in from other bases ... Weak growth :/ could there possibly be a bit bias?
Have a nice day

Hi,
When MoL or someone else from Ryanair has a pressconference in Belgium can a journalist present on this forum ask some questions about EBOS.
For the last few years MoL has said that they are in talks with EBOS.
One can talk, chat or have negociations.

Re: Ryanair in 2015
Ostair, I'd be delighted if Ryanair (or any other airline) started flying to Ostend especially from Scotland

Many thanks in advance.sn26567 wrote:I take noteostair wrote:When MoL or someone else from Ryanair has a pressconference in Belgium can a journalist present on this forum ask some questions about EBOS.
Would also appreciate that you would ask what the problem with EBOS really is.
Latest answer was that they hadn't any aircrafts and that were awaiting the delivery of their new 737-800 fleet.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Agree.3toons wrote:Ostair, I'd be delighted if Ryanair (or any other airline) started flying to Ostend especially from Scotland
Don't forget the Midlands, Manchester, Liverpool and.................Belfast.
At this moment no other airline flies from Belfast to Belgium.
Not that EGAC-EBOS would be a success but its strange that nobody is operating this route out of Belgium.
Ryanair has enough bases in the UK to operate to EBOS.
With a max flight of 2hr, I'm sure a decent schedule could be build.
Re: Ryanair in 2015
Ostair I totally agree with you. There are also no direct flights from the west coast of Scotland to Belgium. When I go to Ostend I either have to drive 2 hours to Edinburgh airport or drive to Glasgow airport and change aircraft at Heathrow. Belgium is very poorly connected to Scotland. When Ryanair flew daily from Prestwick to Charleroi the flights were either completely full or just had a few empty seats. There definately is a demand for more direct flights to Belgium from Scotland. Of course I would love to be able to fly into Ostend Airport again. But how likely is that to happen?

I agree, but then to Brussels!3toons wrote:Ostair I totally agree with you. There are also no direct flights from the west coast of Scotland to Belgium. and it shows when you book a ticket: SN charged me a 400€ for a midweek trip to EDI booked 6 weeks in advance, because FR doesn't offer daily flights!
and on top of that, I had to be in Glasgow (OK, just a hour from EDI...)
Cheers,
