Yep, do not expect any aircraft on it, only piles of snow. The zone between taxiway R1, Service Drive 62 and Service Drive 64 gets a hard surface to store snow after snow removal during winter (Apron 4 no longer available for this purpose)

That's truly great news, an early Christmas-present for the Belgian aviation fanatics!

Can't wait to see plans and facts about this huge project.

More things will become available mid January, I suppose that around that period also some news will be released. But it will be a huge project and this for many departments.

In today's press release (see Luchtzak homepage), Brussels Airport announces investments of 550 million euros, together with a decrease of airport taxes next year, but an increase in the following years to pay for these infrastructure investments.

2016 will be a very interesting years as well as the next coming years. With the confirmation now of the extention of concourse A and with the expantion of SN and UA.

Looking forward to this and bear in mind that with the extention of concourse A, BRU will also foreseen in A380 facilities.

Wasn't A-pier West supposed to be an exclusively Star Alliance extension? The only carrier I see arriving with an A380 is EK. It might be better to renovate and expand one B-pier gate capable of handling the A380, reserving the gates at APW for Star Alliance...

Hi Conti764,

I mean that besides the extention of Councourse A, BRU will also work on facilities for the A380 :)

Thanks for the clarification Atlantis, I misread your post as well!

Can I read between the lines that BRU won't do this without the intention / promise of "an airliner" to come with an A380?

Cheers,

Stij

If Emirates is capable of filling an A380 to Birmingham or Prague, it must be able to fill one at BRU as well. When the EK A380 came to Brussels a couple of months ago, you could deduct from the speeches that Emirates would switch to an A380 as soon as soon as the facilities would be ready.

Dear Stij,

Since a while already BRU was thinking about installations for the A380 and in meantime there are already tenders for some tools, power units, etc. There is/was one specific request but before this they were already busy with this.

A new project that will start also is the old building between the Skyhall and the terminal. The Skyhall they can't renew bcs it's a protected building but the old building between the Skyhall and the terminal will be totally demolished. The foundations will be made much more stronger. A new baggage building will raise. If needed, a first and second floor can be added also later when the demand will be there.

Which building are we talking about? Do you know when the works will start? Thanks!

The building between the Skyhall and the terminal.

The start of demolish and to rebuild a new one is not known at this moment. It's in the pipeline, let me call it like this.

So seen from the airside, there will be then only one ugly building yet and that's the skyhall, but not much they can't do about this bcs protected. They even can't organise events in the Skyhall anymore due to safety reasons

They've knocked down most of the interior of the skyhall for that low cost terminal folly. I'm sure they can renovate the exterior, but see no practical use to do so. I just hope it isn't part of a plan to just let the building get so dilapidated and run down that there's no other option but to tear it down
