Take care!

Hainan island. Some people say ... If you intend to visit this jewel now is the time before it becomes too commercialised.
Where are you on Hainan island, Stoney?
Haikou
Sanya
Tianyahaijiao
Yalong Wang
Xinglong
Luhuitou
Dadonghai

Tell us about it, Stoney.
Nope didn't talk to Hainan Airlines Staff but just some people living here...

This is getting very offtopic but anyway.
I am in Haikou at the moment, living here with my girlfriends parents. I been to Sanya (Dadonghai & Yalong Bay (Yalong Wan is chinese) are actually beaches in Sanya, not cities) and some other cities on your list are planned this month.

Haikou is not very interesting for tourists, just a reasonably big Chinese city. Sanya on the other hand is pretty nice, very nice beaches, nice surroundings, great food, not too expensive but not too cheap eather.

Before it's commercialised you say? IMO this is already too late, the whole of Sanya is filled with hotels, unbelievable. Mainly caters to domestic chinese tourists and this you notice pretty fast as a western tourist. I did see some western tourists there, but I have no idea how they get around here. Most people here don't speak any english at all. Without my girlfriend I would be lost here, no kidding...
China wants to promote Hainan as the Thailand or Bali of China but I don't think this will work because the lack of english speaking people. Only five star hotels usually have 1 english speaking staff in the hotel, and the english is still pretty basic.
Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice place here, even Haikou is a very special experience for me, but if you do decide to come here don't forget a translator/guide... If you are interested there are some pictures on my personal website, which should be in my signature somewhere...

About Malev and Hainan Airlines

Post by SN30952 »

Ni how, Stoney. Thanks for the info. Have a nice time on the island.
About Hainan Airlines.
I think the first hand info by Stoney says enough about the immediate possibilities of this airline to operate flights to Europe. This will take some time, before they have the trained staff. Chinese fly only with chinese staff.
On the other hand the main Hainan Airlines share holder and financier is Mr George Soros. This explains why Hainan Airlines is interested in Malev.Mr Soros is born hungarian, maybe not magyar.

In the summer of 1992, Malév was transformed into a joint-stock company wholly owned by the Hungarian state, municipalities and employees. On 15 December 1992, 35% of the shares moved into Italian ownership: Alitalia purchased a 30% stake in Malév, and the investment company Simest a 5% share.

A company (Air Invest Kft.) founded by two Hungarian banks, Magyar Külkereskedelmi Bank Rt. and OTP Bank Rt., bought out the Italian stakes on 15 December 1997

In August 1999 the state property agency ÁPV Rt. repurchased these shares. At present the Malév ownership structure is as follows:
Company shareholders:
· ÁPV Rt. 99.948%
· local governments 0.038%
· trade unions 0.001%
· other shareholders 0.013%
Total: 100.000% And it is for sales:
Despite intensifying competition, the company has maintained a stable market share and carries a rising number of passengers. The company operates at a loss, and has substantial loan debts. The greatest inhibiting factor on development is the company's undercapitalization. The company intends and is already on the way to associate to SKY TEAM.
The expected date of privatization: under discussion.

So when Soros can buy Malev, he will have the skilled crews to man the long haul to Europe. These destination are in Malev's schedules: BJS, Beijing/Peking, China; CAN, Guangzhou, China; SHA, Shanghai - Hong Qiao, China and no other destinations in the FE.

Further information for the Malev shares:
Name: Péter Endrõdy, Privatization Department II
Tel: 36-1 237-4400/2688
Fax: 36-1 237-4238
E-mail: endrodypeter@apvrt.hu
Hungary has been the primary target of western investors in the region until 2001. Until December of 2003 the net foreign direct investments including reinvested revenues exceeded USD 37 bn.

Themole,

Welcome to Luchtzak. We expect to read more from you, but hopefully other than this kind of cryptic messages which do not have their place in a forum.

Thank you!

sn26567 wrote: Etihad, "ondernemingsraad" (or "conseil d'entreprise" in French) is not the Board, but the staff council. By law in Belgium, management is obliged to give the staff some economic information on the company on a regular basis.

But I am also interested in the answer to your question: TG or SN?
I know the difference between the board and the works council

Fact is that the board decides about such matters, not the works council.
SN management doesn't care all that much about the works council.
The works council is only there because it is mandatory by law.

Hainan will come to Brussels sooner than you expect.
Source?
How about BIAC ...

Don't be so pessimistic and conservative in your opinions about the possibility of Brussels being linked with Asia again.
BIAC is working on it, several airlines too.

Just look out for the next diplomatic and commercial mission to China.

Offcourse it would be cool if it is true... Then I could fly Hainan Airlines all the way to Hainan from Brussels...

(PS : Why does everybody use Hainan Air, Hainan AirLINES is the official name, even in the luchtzak news i see Hainan Air mentioned... You guys don't call SNBA SN Brussels Air either, right?)

But, they will have a lot of work before this I guess. I flew Hainan Airlines already two times (guess i'm the only one on this forum who can say that ;) ) and they don't speak any english at all on the flights. Announcements in english are taped but completely ununderstandable... This will have to change if they plan flying to Brussels. Service and friendliness on the planes is completely chinese too, so this too will have to change (allthough it's better than China Southern) as I don't think the european public will appreciate the "chinese" service...
Etihad, you seem very confident in your statements, no links for confirmation or something?

Hainan already flies to Budapest 3 times weekly.
I am sure that the English linguistic skills of the crews don't cause a problem.
The Hainan crews are trained specifically for these kind of operations.

If you have a press ID card, try BIAC.
If you don't have a press ID card, try to be patient ...

Ref.: connection Belgium-Thialand / Belgium Excell

hi,

I can say that Mr. Udom, boss and owner of Orient Thai has confirmed personally to me that he focuses on Brussels for his long haul european connection. But...not yet. He has other worries. And the risk is pretty big. And it is not stable enough, with the long low season.

If he would use a 747, he would earn most on cargo traffic. Orient Thai does a lot of cargo, also to Hong Kong.

The flight might be : Bangkok-Dubai-Brussels-New York.

Oh yes , wait and see

Welcome regi!
"And it is not stable enough, with the long low season"

Isn't the high season in Thailand from November to January? (or because of the war in Irak, the high oil price...)
So maybe OX could start the service next year in the winter season.

It would be great if OX would come to BRU, but even better if they decide to operate the flights with the Tristar :)

Anyway, it seems BRU will finally get some additional long haul traffic in the "near" future.

The Thai government plans to allow foreign carriers unlimited flights to the country after the opening of Suvarnabhumi International Airport in September 2005.

And btw, I talked with Mr Udom about that project already 2 years ago... So that can wait one more year. Meanwhile his 747 are not getting younger.

Is this ironic?

We do really expect from a majority of our members to actively participate in the forum discussions. And at the end of the day, from the confrontation of ideas comes the light
