Thanks for the link but it is not clear that the decoration is on the both sides (outside of the plane).

I don't understand the question why they would fly separatly.
Yes it is in a way 'unsafe' to fly all together but yes ... indeed it's not a royal family or a president that is on board so why would one do that. On the other hand, let's put it very 'rude' say there would be 2 planes and something happens with one of the them and some of them don't make it out alive ... do you really think they would still (be able) to participate? It has happened before in the past that entire teams have gone lost in crashes indeed but that is just the matter of having reaaaally bad luck.

I have all the confidence in these nowadays planes and their maintenance, especially European ones ... so don't see the problem. Let's all just relax and see them crossing the atlantic safely without a problem like 1000's of people doing daily ...

ETOPS is no problem, SNBA has that, and I don't see the Atlantic crossing of the South Atlantic to be further then the one in the North Atlantic, in that crossing (due to ETOPS rules in place) they ALSO go straight ahead so ...
Btw, like mentioned, they fly trough Dakar, apparantly due to crew change.
So that breaks the trip basically in half.

I didn't realize OO-SFO is an old A330-300, probably explains the fuel stop in DKR. Two hops are cheaper than a longer one if you only take fuel into consideration. Wonder if this'll give SN ideas for the future

I think the old bird is unable to make it nonstop to Brazil.
It makes the journey 2 hrs longer and will increase fatigue for the team.

I don't think so, there's a separate flight to DKR and CKY as well today (SN205)

May be crewing solution to avoid expensive positioning of crews to Sao Paulo. One full crew for the Brussels-Dakar flight, resting in Dakar before the return flight. Double cockpit crew for Dakar-Sao Paulo and back, with single cabin crew positioning (off-duty) on the way back.

Positioning crews commercially before and after the flight to Sao Paulo to bring both plane and crew back would be a lot more expensive.

If that's the case, too bad the team has to take the stop in Dakar on top of such a long flight already. But it shows how airliners work. It looks all nice on the outside, but on the inside money is all that matters. Good luck to the crews flying the Dakar - Sao Paulo - Dakar. It ain't fun to do 2 legs and +14 hours through multiple time zones in a metal tube... especially in the silence of the atlantic...

C'mon!!! The flight's to GRU not to Mars!!!
The stop at Dakar is not a big deal as it is a day flight..I would say actually makes the flight more entertaining.. would have been more of a nuisance had it been a stop in the middle of the night..
