I do not know building rules in Zaventem but here you even need a permit to install a Velux window on your roof or a garden shed next to your house. But I understand that BIAC have postponed the opening to 2011.
Regular companies already active in BRU are 100% against such a policy . Low Cost airlines = Lower charges ; regular Airlines = High charges (amongst the highest in Europe )
Rgds.
That is why I said structural e.g.: extra windows in roofs or walls that are bearing the weight of the building
You could say they just painted the walls and brought in new desks, so only decorative work for which you don't have to have a permit.

But that is all I'm going to say about it since this is not a building forum.

The rest of you're comment is vallid. I wouldn't like to pay more for the same service. But than again the low-cost terminal is less luxurious.

Ryanair will have 3 more A/C based in CRL (total of 11).
http://www.lesoir.be/actualite/economie ... 1662.shtml

The number of destinations should be over 90 in the future.
This is getting completely out of control :) Who ever thought of such a speedy growth

That's great news! I was expecting it but the future looks bright for low cost travellers like me.
This year, I flew Ryanair over 20 times and never paid over 10€ one way all in. The average is at around 5€ which always makes the bus ride much more expensive than my FR tickets : isn't that ridiculous !
Imagine Europe without Ryanair !
I can only remember my Erasmus year spent in Bologna, I had to use Eurolines as Sabena tickets were 300€ return. Now I'm flying to and from Bologna for 1€ ! It's a different world!

Quite so !
Thirty years ago, a Sabena ticket to Rome (for example) cost more than a Ryanair ticket today ... indexation in reverse !
I wonder what will be the new destinations - and impatient to try at least some of them.
LCC are set to be a growing part of commercial aviation - a pity that Brusses delibaretely choosed to be by-passed by it.

Didn't MoL predicted a few years ago that the CRL base would have 15 aircraft by 2010-2012? Everyone (myself included) thought he was crazy, but they can reach that number in summer/winter 2011 if they want to...

It is really good news though, both for CRL and FR!
The bigger the base gets, the harder it will be for FR to abandon it and even a train station at the airport will start to make sense...

I flew FR a lot, but I switched to Jetairfly mostly, since BRU can be reached easily by train and and they have good last-minutes with clear all-inclusive prices, which FR doesn't do.
If CRL get's a train station, (or MST expands rapidly), and FR stop with all the stupid 'optional charges', I'd be happy to switch back to FR!

Unfortunately for CRL, "Ecolo" is now in the Walloon government, and they don't like aviation.
They have already put the brake on the runway extension ...

It's not that difficult to grow like hell in a country where they get everything for free, even at the expense of the national airline. It's about time they (RYR) start to pay for normal things like "ATC" to name one.

"national airline" ? Brussels Airlines has never been the national airline, and even less so now it's German.
Anyway, the good old times of sabenian-like monopoly are fortunately over !

OO-JFP , you are very poorly informed , every airline has to pay for ATC regardless of how much they use it , or indeed wheather they are a Loco or legacy airline . FR get nothing for free anywhere, especially ATC. They get low rates at various airports , these rates are available to any airline who brings the same number of PAX as them . It is called market forces , you do somehing in bulk you get a lower price , this is the same for any business.

Yes true, its the bulk number that does it. NOT

Buying customers is an illegal thing (due to regulation) and I think you could say Rayanair is being bought by CRL if you see how low fares they have to pay. No wonder they are happy flying there, they get the airport service almost for free. And you could say it shows, FR drops an airport over night when they have to pay more than they like or DONT GET AS MUCH as they like.

Still, it's hard to imagine that the result can be negative. They create a nice airport out of nothing and gave thousand jobs to a region that needed them badly.

So what???

Pax are flying cheap, jobs are created in CRL, if FR leaves CRL don't worry , there will be somebody else to operate out of these nice infrastructures ideally located, and who knows CRL could become one day a real "international" airport for a new liberated country...

If you can speak dutch, search/buy "Trends" with the article about Belgocontrol... In Belgium only traffic flying in/out of BRU pays full price!

Ryanair and BSCA now follow the rules set by the European Union, and, as far as I know, nobody has initiated any judicial action any more on that count against them.
As long as it follows those rules, any airport is free to offer the best conditions to potential customers.
