How can they grow so fast ?

Every airline in Europe has problems with high fuel and costs.
But they seems to have no problems ?

Turkish Airlines and Luxair have launched reciprocal codeshare service between Istanbul and Luxembourg, via Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna.

THY has launched a new domestic destination:

Istanbul Ataturk-Igdir (IGD) has already started. (Igdir Airport was opened only a week ago.)

Anadolu Jet which is THY's LCC arm has started Igdir flights from Ankara Esenboga Airport.

THY has sent a statement to Istanbul Stock Exchange announcing some new international destinations based on aircraft availability and gaining necessary permits:

*Istanbul Ataturk-Isfahan (Iran)
*Istanbul Ataturk-Kermanshah (Iran)
*Istanbul Ataturk-Luxembourg
*Istanbul Ataturk-Aden (Yemen)
*Istanbul Ataturk-Luanda (Angola)
*Istanbul Ataturk-Kilimanjaro (Tanzania)
*Istanbul Ataturk-Mombasa (Kenya)

No dates were given.

Already having the world's 7th largest flight network and flying to 199 flight destinations, Turkish Airlines nonetheless continues to expand. Later this year Turkish Airlines will add four destinations: Sharm El Şeykh (Egypt) and the Maldives. Beginning October 9th, 2012, roundtrip flights between Istanbul and Sharm El Şeykh will be operated 4 times per week. On November 24th, 2012, Istanbul-Maldives flights will be inaugurated and operate 5 times weekly. Kinshasa will be launched on August 27th, 2012 with 4 roundtrip flights per week. Sabha (Libya) will be added on September 2nd, 2012 with the 3 services per week.

THY began flights to Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott.

ISTANBUL (AA) - September 16, 2012 - Turkish national air carrier, Turkish Airlines or THY, began flights to Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott.
A statement said that THY launched flights to Nouakchott on Sunday, the 24th destination of THY to Africa.
Flights will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

THY has sent a statement to Istanbul Stock Exchange that they intend to open the below destinations this year based on gaining necessary permits and the availability of aircraft:

Istanbul Ataturk-Asmara (Eritrea)

Istanbul Ataturk-Libreville (Gabon)

Istanbul Ataturk-Santiago de Compostela (Spain)

Istanbul Ataturk-Zafer (Turkey) (Zafer Airport will open to air traffic on 29.October.2012)

Turkish and Mozambique Governments have signed an civil aviation agreement this week. Please be ready to hear that THY will start fly to and via Mozambique soon. :D

Turkish Airlines starting 04DEC12 is expanding operation to East Africa, with the launch of 5 weekly Istanbul – Kilimanjaro – Mombasa – Istanbul routing, on board Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.

THY has announced that they will place a firm order for 15 off A330-300 from Airbus. The delivery schedule will be 4 off in 2014, 6 off in 2015 and 5 off in 2016.
Good news for the European manufacturer! Hopefully they will appreciate this order! :D

I ask myself the same question when I look at EK's gigantic A380 order next to big orders for A350's and 777's. And I wondered it myself in the past when TK placed such big orders. It seems they can just make things work, tough I wonder if this will continue...

These routes are more suited for narrow-bodies.

The wide-bodies could be better used to destinations like Brussels or Berlin with a large Turkish expatriate community, plus the new long-haul destinations.

Also to add that, Turkish Civil Aviation Authority is signing or renewing lots of agreements with countries from Africa, South America and Asia. THY openly states their desire to fly to more destinations in North and South America. In Asia, the Phillipines, India, Australia and N.Z. are target countries as well as increasing frequencies on some other Asian destinations.

THY has announced that they have placed a firm order for 15 off B777-300ER plus an extra 5 option. The delivery is expected as 3 off in 2014, 7 off in 2015, 5 off in 2016 and 5 off in 2017.
