Emirates might reorder 50 to 70 A350-900s in 2015 after all, for intra-Middle Eastern operations, but it will put the Airbus aircraft in competition with the Boeing 787-9.

The A350 XWB successfully conducted ‘Maximum Energy Rejected Take-Off’ tests, part of the mandatory series of tests for Certification. The brakes must have been hot!

Aer Lingus has deferred an announcement concerning a possible order for the A350 from Airbus Industrie in light of the recent unveiling of the A330neo airline.

In an interview with the Irish Independent newspaper, CEO Christoph Mueller said his airline will now spend "three or four months" studying the upgraded A330 variant before making a decision.

In February this year, Mueller said his airline would likely settle for a mixture of A350-900s and what was then reported as A330-900 Regionals.

As you could read in various recent press releases elsewhere on this site, the A350 has just completed its world certification tour. One stop on the tour was at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport, because Aeroflot is a large customer for the aircraft.

The Airbus A350 XWB aircraft MSN005 landed in Sheremetyevo on August 11th 2014 the day of the airport’s 55th anniversary. The historical flight was welcomed by hundreds of photographers, fans and aviation lovers.

Mechanism for financing deliveries of 22 А350 XWB aircraft to Aeroflot (launch customer for A350 in Russia) will be considered no sooner than 2017. This leaves ample time to solve any possible problems connected with sanctions against Russia’s largest financial institutions imposed by USA and EU.

Usually matters related to financing of deliveries are considered 12 or 6 months prior to the delivery, so it is too early to discuss it.

Airbus has disclosed that it uses some certified 3D printed parts in the A350. Not sure any other aircraft has such parts.

The Airbus A350-900 is EASA certified! Since today.

For those who want to read the certification document (good luck!), it can be found here:

http://easa.europa.eu/system/files/dfu/ ... sue-01.pdf

However, the Airbus A350 has no ETOPS approval yet - paperwork is ready and that should happen "shortly," chief engineer says.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has approved the new Airbus A350-900 airliner for ETOPS (Extended-range Twin engine aircraft Operations) ‘beyond 180 minutes’ diversion time. This includes an option for up to 370 minute maximum diversion time.

The A350-900 becomes the first new airliner ever to be approved for “ETOPS Beyond 180 minutes” before entry into service.

And from Bloomberg:

Airbus Said to Near Win Over Boeing for Delta Air Wide-Body Jets

Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Airbus Group NV is close to winning an order from Delta Air Lines Inc. for as many as 50 wide-body jets valued at about $13 billion, beating competing planes from Boeing Co., people familiar with the matter said. The sale would be a mix of Airbus’s A330neo and A350-900 planes, said two of the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions aren’t public. The purchase with
Atlanta-based Delta is still being negotiated and may be announced as early as next week, one person said.
A deal would build on earlier Airbus successes at Delta, including a 40-plane order in 2013 with a list value of $5.6 billion. Delta had favored models from Chicago-based Boeing over Airbus until acquiring Northwest Airlines in 2008. Boeing supported Delta’s bankruptcy restructuring plan in 2007 in the
face of a hostile takeover bid by US Airways. The A350 may have beaten Boeing’s 787-9 Dreamliner because Airbus had more delivery slots available following the cancellation of an order by Emirates Airline.
Betsy Talton, a Delta spokeswoman, said the carrier had no comment on its fleet plans. Stefan Schaffrath, a spokesman for Toulouse, France-based Airbus, said the company doesn’t comment
on talks with customers, as did Marc Birtel, a Boeing spokesman.
The A330neo is an updated version of the A330, a twin-aisle plane frequently used on trans-Atlantic routes. The all-new A350-900 is due to make its commercial debut with Qatar Airways Ltd. in coming weeks.
Airbus lists the larger of the two A330neo variants for $275 million, while the A350-900’s catalog price is $295 million before the discounts that are customary in the industry. The final valuation of the deal will depend on how aircraft of each type are selected.

But Qatar Airways will already take delivery of the first of its 80 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft on order on December 13, 2014.

Qatar Airways announced this Wednesday that delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 XWB, originally planned for this weekend, has been postponed. No new date for the delivery or reasons for the delay were given; Qatar is the launch customer for the all-new widebody.

Airbus statement: "We are working very closely with Qatar Airways to meet our common goal to deliver their first A350 XWB very soon."
