JAL had the option to purchase the A350 did it not?? Instead it chose the 787 (though, much of that plane is being subcontracted to Japan). One HUGE problem with airlines ordering the A380 is that it will be limited for a while to the airports that it can fly to. We must also keep in mind that there have to be suitable alternates for the A380 to divert to in case of an emergency also. Until more airports are ready for the giant, I don't think it will be as popular as it has the potential to be.

The Airbus A380 is designed to land at any airport currently being used by the B747-400, the only problem being the taxiways and where to dock the plane for unloadind and loading but in the case of a diversion I dont beleive that this will cause too much headaches.

I suspect a lot more cargo carriers will start to order them soon. I'm affraid to say that I'm ignorant to other country's cargo carriers, but they should order them!!

Which cargo carriers will order the A380F?
The only one I can think of is DHL.
Or maybe Cathay Pacific will order A380F and A380-800 together in Paris Air Show 2005! :D

I don't think many... Perhaps EK looks for some more, who knows?
About DHL (DHL Air - UK), they use only B757s, whereas Astar Air Cargo (US) has some A300s. Perhaps DHL Air will go for some A388Fs for transatlantic routes mainly, but I find the aircraft too big for such an airline. :?

I'd bet good money on them ordering more A380 freighters...

Additionally, Singapore Airlines Cargo is known to be looking into the plane, as is LH Cargo.

Any source to this rumor, as I have a hard time believing that...

Like planes are changing so are the needs of people in different places. Future orders will probablly be nothing like they have been in the past. Things can just materialise out of nothing so who knows who will get what.

I have forgot where I had seen the news that NWA is going to order 6 A380s. But I'm sure that I really saw it on the last few days.

If SA orders A380's , will they continue to disembark on the tarmac and transfer passengers by busses to the Johannesburg terminal, as is now the case with BA, Virgin, Lutfhansa, Swiss,...?
If they are not big enough to handle 747's, should they buy A380?

1) Air Canada
Not likely. They already got rid of their largest aircraft, the 747-400, so I doubt they'd go for something even bigger.
2) Air India
I'm sure they could use some, but if they were to begin the evaluation now, they'd probably get the government approval somewhere around 2020
3) American Airlines
Not in a million years.
4) Iberia
More likely, they have been rumored in the past.
5) Japan Airlines
Doubt it. It's not built by Boeing.
6) Northwest Airlines
Of all the US carriers, they are the most likely to at one point order it, though I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
7) United Airlines
I doubt it, even if they manage to get out of the crisis they're in now.

I wouldn't be surprised if China Eastern and China Airlines of Taiwan ordered it somewhere down the line though.

Wait till Vietnam finishes its new airport at Saigon. They want to overclass Bangkok and Singapore within 10 year. Therefore they will have to handle the A380 as well.

If the A380 is succeed to fly into the sky in its first test flight, I think more airlines will order A380.

The one which is waiting to see A380 first flight is Cathay Pacific. If A380 is able to fly into the sky, CX will soon order it in the Paris Air Show. However, Airbus should also show A380 can fly non-stop from Hong Kong to Los Angeles without payload restrictions.

CX stated recently they are not in a hurry to buy any new widebodies at the moment.

Currently, CX is interrested by:
A380-800 or B747-Adv (I would go for A380)
A340-600 or B777-300ER (I would go for B777)
A350-800 or B787-800/900 (I would go for B787)

Latest News of A380 order:

David Turnbull, Chairman of the Swire Group, said Cathay Pacific will order new aircraft either at the end of this year or the beginning of 2006. Turnbull commented that it would appear that it has close to making up its mind on its long haul fleet requirement. "We believe that it could be centred on a mix of B787s and a sprinkling of A380s as well as A340-600s." said Turnbull.

That means the next possible customers are including Cathay Pacific.
