Looks like Airbus is managing to run the A380 on schedule, lets hope that all the ground tests manage to run on time, so we can get to see this BEAST roaring through our skies as soon as possible. :jump2:

:D :D     I wish I could see it live! Does anybody know if it is going to be carried live on DWTV =Deuchtse Welle TV; we get coverage of the English language version way down here, but, my main bet would be that CNN will cover it too! Think of the ratings for the TV companies that cover the roll-out of this superb 'plane!
10:30 is that GMT or CET?

  :D :D

Air France confirms that the Airbus A380 will join its fleet in April 2007 which will make the airline the first in Europe to take delivery of new super jumbo.

Air France has 10 A380-800s on order with options on an additional 4 ; 3 are scheduled to arrive in the Spring of 2007.

Air France will first use the aircraft on the North Atlantic routes (New York & Montreal) for the 2007 Summer season followed by Asian routes (Beijing & Tokyo) in 2008.

Korean have ordered A380 since a long time now:

5 on firm order

3 leased from ILFC

don't know what engine they have chosen, I think the GP7200 is/will be selected.

The plane will have an maximum cruising airspeed of 0.89M (source Airbus). But in fact it will fly at 0.82M. (The B747-400 fly at 0.85; according to Boeing, the B747-Adv will fly at 0.86M)

Max thrust on A380 is aprox. 80.000lbs on each engine. I'm a little bit sceptic about the freighter and the stretched versions. I hope they won't fly at 0.78M like are the firsts A340.

my 0.02 €

The speed will be between 0.89M and 0.82M depending on several things off course. Can't wait to see this baby get airborne :P

How is airspeed in mach related to airspeed in kph? Is it just a direct coversion using the average speed of sound at cruising altitude, or does (maximum) airpseed actually depend on the same factors that influence the speed of sound? (temperature/pressure)

nb of Mach = airspeed of the aircraft/soundspeed

airspeed doesn't mean groundspeed.

let's say you are flying at 320 m/s (1152 kph/ 716 kts) in an environmental air where the soundspeed is at 340m/s (1224 kph/ 760kts)

Then you have:

320/340 or 1152/1224 or 716/760

=0.94 M

The soundspeed depend of the pressure of the air. The pressure can varie by variation of altitude or temperature...
