Re: Korean Air at BRU
I'm wondering if journalists in their articles are'nt mixing up "slots" and "traffic rights". I think the slots are available at BRU (not an overcrowded airport), but probably the airlines want more traffic rights, i.e. the right to perform more flights, rights mostly granted through bilateral agreements.
In favor of quality air travel.

And the traffic rights for South-Korea are given to South-Korean carriers by the South-Korean authorities. Brussels Airport, nor the Belgian Authorities can do anything about it.Air Key West wrote:I'm wondering if journalists in their articles are'nt mixing up "slots" and "traffic rights". It could very well be that the condition to operate the extra two cargo flights a week was to operate also two pax flights a week. South-Korean authorities could want a direct link to the EU capital. If my theory is true, expect the pax flights to be operated by 747-400 combi as cargo seems to be pretty profitable in this market.

For cargo there will be an extra 4 available. 2 will probably be taken by Korean. 2 others will remain 'open' for Korean in a second phase or Asiana.Atlantis wrote:The webside Lloyd NV published a small article today with more specific info.Atlantis wrote: But Korean and Asiana has both 3 and 4 slots. Both wants 7 slots. There is now an agreement that above the 7 excisting there will be 4 extra slots.
Like I said yesterday about the 4 new slots, according to Lloyd NV, those 4 new slots will be exclusive for Korean Air. Korean Air Cargo will use two slots for flights to Shanghai.
The other two are "under investigation" for possible pax flights.
Asiana has at this moment 4 slots and this stay like it is for this moment.

Passenger traffic rights are not included in the 11.
Maybe a rather dumb question, but if Asiana wants more slots, why don't they get them? It's not like BRU is slot restricted and if I were BRU, I'd favor any possible Star Alliance airline over a competitor if slot availability would be rare.
