I really want to give my full support to the employees of Sabena Technics.
Their know-how and multiple skill are part of a certain Belgian "savoir-faire".

I've read multiple reports about Qantas having regrets to have outsourced the C & D checks and heavy overhauls in the Far-East (Lufthansa Technik in MNL, SIA Technics in Changi,...). Many of their incidents (2007 and 2008) can be put on the neglected work performed in Asia. But you know, it's cheaper and goes quicker !!
Those structures in the Far-East killed Sabena Technics, between others.

The costs difference between any EU or hell Western MRO and the far east. Is just to big. basic tarif for havy @ bru is 125€ in asia 25€. On serval thousands of hours this becomes a huge figure. And i guess the cost of quality maintance is greater then the cost of the airplane on ground becaus of technical reasons.

@sabenatechnics
Yes it satyed 6 months. But becaus of scrape marks under the paint.
Theire was a reason why they wanted the paint removed by chemical process (decaperen).

And imo when you find a problem during C, D checks you solve it. It's isn't like line or light maintance. Where if the problem isn't to big you close an eye. But the biggest problem are the planes we are getting. They are in a shitty state, flying 20 odd years whitout decent maintance. It's just normal that you are gonna find ALOT of problems.

In the end most of it boils down to mangement & sales that screw up.
Like @ TNE
Technicians bring in a contract for fan cowls(??? not sure).
We do the job, we have profit, client happy with price and work.
Next time client comes in for the same work. They get in contact with sales. The price goes up 20% !?!?!
For no good reason. And ofcourse @ that point we loose the contract
