I had a bad feeling already, but I heard the news on the radio this afternoon when I was at Abelag. Was a very emotional moment, knowing that this is the seventh bankcrupt Belgian airline in 5 years:

1999: Constellation International Airlines
2000: Air Belgium
2001: Brussels International Airlines
2001: CityBird
2001: Sabena
2002: Delsey / VG Airlines
2004: Sobelair

Sad regards, Robin Bamps.

Sobelair do still have its Flight-license, that is what the curators told.

Sabena Technics told that it has a contract with Tui, for the maintenance of its 2 aircrafts.

A black day for Belgian Aviation.
I had a lot of good experiences with this airline.
I hope the Sobelair staff will find new work soon.

I'll miss you, Sobelair

As far as i know, TUI is not interested in the planes owned by SLR. They only consider those who are leased by Sobelair.

Bart,

Sometimes you have to read in between the lines Frederic , as i mentionned in my posting "lease contract", so the likely candidates should be OO-SBX, RMV, SLW, VAC and even the "VAS". I guess the 767s will be returned to the lessors.

I am travelling and I just learned the news. What a shame! My best memory with Sobelair: Brussels-Oaxaca-Cancun-Brussels in 1999 with the 767 in business class. A marvelous trip!

Another souvenir: the DC6s to the Congo, when Sobelair, a fiercely independent company, operated charters in competition with Sabena's scheduled flights. Sabena had a blue cheatline, Sobelair a green one.

I'm just back from holidays and now I see this

RIP Sobelair

I wish all the staff of SLR to find a new job asap.

What a sad moment for Belbian aviation

BTW: What about Birdy's interest in taking over 2 767's :?:

Birdy is not interested anymore. After JetAir and Thomas Cook decided to walk away from Sobelair, there is nothing to take over anymore.

It's not only a sad day but a sad couple of years already, in the Belgian airline business! Management incompetence and political misjudgement are the key factors which are the cause.
My personal opinion is that all the post Sabena set-ups are very artificial or arrangements à la Belge, difficult to survive the long term.
I am very sorry for all that dedicated and professional staff working in such an uncertain environment.... :(

According to "De morgen" all sobelair pilots obtained a job offer from 3-4 foreign companies.
Somebody knows wich companies?

VEX is reducing their fleet so this is out of the question.

I am not too sure if they will really get a new job so fast, wait and see...
