Apparently BRU and Belgium in general is getting more and more "loved" by cargo operators:!:
Is it because of our central european position or rather the congestion of the surrounding big airports :?:

Yes that would be nice more cargo operations ... and it would help the economy because asian cargo bring in a lot of work and money ... but from where there going to fly and to where there going to fly ... and is there maybe an options to do passenger flights to tokyo or osaka ...

Asian cargo also brings a lot of trouble: yesterday, like many other days, the customs at BRUcargo found a lot of counterfeit articles coming from China: watches, designer clothes, computer programmes, etc.

There is also VAT fraud on Asian goods which are suppopsed to be in transit in Brussels (false papers show export to another EU country, thus avoiding VAT), but are in fact delivered in Belgium.

Cobra,

The only time I flew ANA was on a domestic route in Japan, between Haneda (the other Tokyo airport) and Osaka. It was one of the hourly B747s, packed to the ceiling, those whose landing gear had been reinforced because of the many landings...

Never seen such a crowd on a 747...

I am sure you know that Japanese have very little vacation: one week at the most. So they can save a whole year for that week.

Another factor: companies compensate their managers for the lack of vacation by offering them "business trips" abroad. Little business, but much trip.

That's right André. Indeed for japanese their trip to for example Europe
is considered as a business trip.

They mostly spend their vacation in their home country.

Many people do not understand this mentality.

see you

Frederic,

as I said , just rumours.

This company is not even planning flights ex Belgium, but mainly ex Germany to the far/middle east.
Got no further details, as the guy got more Maes then he could handle. At that time ( 2 weeks ago), there was not even a name for the company :!:

The problem is not BRU but NRT, there are no more slots available. Have you not noticed that most airlines already depart with a delay, same goes for LHR

Sadly, full does not mean profitable.

Brussels - Tokyo doesn't show a high yield factor. You can compare the situation to Johannesburg. Sabena had many passengers on these routes, but even then they were not profitable.

These routes are probably among the first long hauls to return to BRU when times get better. But we're not there yet.

Much depends on the general cost of a certain operation and a whole range of variables. A high seat occupancy is an important element to contribute to success, but not the only one.
