It's actually a percentage but at least one aircraft for the smaller members.

CX, I assume you only experienced the economy class on Cathay Pacific. Their best is on business class and first class. The Skytrax airline of the year award is on services (overall product package), and it gathered input from passengers all around the world. So their result is more objective. ATW is a magazine, and I think they judge on the airline business management. Obviously, Cathay, as a publicly listed company with no government ownership, still manage to be very competitive over many state-own airlines, ie Emirates, Singapore Airlines, etc, as well as their management on crisis, ie bird flu, SARS, Asian financial crisis, etc. I think Cathay's recognition is well-deserved, and I think it's no coincident that they all come at about the same time.
