According to internal sources, Boeing won the RfP emanated from QF. The airline is reported to have choosen B777-200LR (AR ?) as well as B787-800 and B787-900IGW (MTOW: 255t).

The first transatlantic flights were done by water planes which refueled along the way.
The question is as serious as it is naive: why is inflight refueling for civil airplanes not done? While it is a daily routine for military planes, even in not combat situations, just for transfer.
They could have called themselves the Queensland United And Northern Territories Air Service(QUANTAS), that would have been in keeping with putting a "u" after the "q" in the English language
The most important problem that might surface is the "economy class syndrome" which consist of blood clots which have already led to deaths on the famous kangaroo route. Has even been shown in the TV series Airport on BBC in the past.
