An-148, you're based at LGG - and I'm sure you're impressed by the way the airport is expanding and creating jobs. I live near Antwerp, and it would love to see a runway of 2.500 metres there, allowing full 737's.

However, that's not the discussion now. There are rules to follow in this country. Those who've decided not to respect Belgian law for extension of the runway should be blamed, not those protesting against it.

For the moment, I'm based in BEG !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a fan of aviation, I'm private pilot, I'm a fan of my birthregion because its tolrerance: I'm fluently speaking french, german , dutch and Kelmiser platt. I feel well in Liege, in Eupen, in Vaals and in Bilzen: so I KNOW whatabout I'm speaking when subjet is "openmind".
Naturally, I would like too to see 737 in Deurne.
I too would like to see SNBA buiyng back the name Sabena and reinforcing SN's presence in BRU, using OST, ANR, CRL and LGG for Virgin.
There is the law and there is the spirit of the law: if some burgemeester invoques the law to harm the neighbour who is offering him jobs for some inhabitants, it's a pity, not more not less!

Agree.

Many people from flanders work in liege airport.

And if i remember good, TNT has some buildings in limburg.

Some people forget that limburgs were before in the Bishopric of Liège (Principauté de Liège) for 700 years. Then we had a gap and now, with europe, we are bulding it again, with the euregio :)

(well ... at least it's my way to see things)

These buildings are not directly linked to the airport. The Tongeren TNT facility is a logitical center for Black & Decker.

Agree. Please stick with aviation facts. All further political comments will be removed without warning.

My own little comment: The City of Maastricht complains about the extension of the runway in LGG, but does not say a word about the extension of the runway at its own airport MST. Did you say "strange"?

The additional 250M of runway are already there for about a year but haven't been used yet.

The Treshold of the RWY 22 will be 250M later at the runway so basicly the runway is not extended for landing traffic.
Departing traffic will indeed have 250M extra runway available.
Well, the flights out of Maastricht make an early left turn in direction of Aachen en near Gulpen they turn right to Olno, so the city of Maastricht has no noise of the airport, but they do have from Liege when the aircraft intercept the ILS over there...hopefully this is clear enough

Maybe a A380 in liege airport soon.
LGG is negociating with a company from United Arab Emirates who have A380 cargo in their buying list.

Also, LGG is nogociating with Airbus to become one of the official airport for A380 cargo testing.

It's what I thought. LGG will be the biggest cargo airport in Belgium. And if they find and get the nessesery investors they will be. They even have a bigger "dream", ending in the Top 5 of cargo airports of Europe.

LGG is geographical good possioned, good highways, near at The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany and France. and less habitants.

They have also the space to expand. That's nefast for Brucargo. The airside of Brucargo is in fact not so big. Sometimes there is no place to park a cargo airplane when an other had some delay. That's probably the reason why they moved the big parking at Brucargo and create some spots for cargo airplanes.

If I understoof correctly the TV news yesterday night, Walloon Minister of Transport André Antoine suspended the permit for lengthening the runway of Bierset in order to avoid the State Council cancelling it completely.

If the permit had been cancelled by the Council of State, the whole procedure should have been started anew, with a delay of 2 years.

Withdrawing temporarily the permit will enable negotiations with all the stakeholders before reinstating the permit in a much shorter delay (3 months?).
