US Airways is just in a too bad shape at the moment, and are busy to work out their own financial problems, and their bad financial situation prevents them from ordering anything (I know several other airlines which are/where in bad shape ordered new a/c's, but US in is way worser shape).
I will start to believe this rumour (even if it is spreaded by US Airways themselves) when United Airlines will order 30 A380's!
If they do order those A350 they will receive a financial injection from Airbus around 250 million dollars!!!!!!
So don't be too surprised when it happens.
@A318, ok, I can see your point. When Airbus gives them the cash injection I can see that they use it to order the A350. But in general I doubt if it would help US Airways, because money won't solve the problem of overcapacity in the US market. It may help to lengthen the life of US Airways, until other airlines fail. But when Airbus would give a cash injection I wonder how the US goverment would react to it, and of course the other airlines (in the US, and all the US Airways competitors).
Could we say in the end, that it are the European taxpayers who are aiding US Airways with our tax-money?
I personally hope that both Boeing and Airbus will sell thousands of planes the next 20 years or so. They do great engineering work and finally the airlines and in the end we (the passengers) can enjoy their efforts. Boeing is doing great this year with all their sales for B737/777/787s, but I think Airbus will anounce some new orders soon, which is always good for competition.
I also hope that US Airways will recover, they are one of the oldest airlines in the states (at least I think so and please correct me if I am wrong) and they have a big fleet. Independent if they get financial help from Airbus (or Boeing) or not, I wish that they continue.
