I think you rae mixing things up Erwin.

As far as I know KLM opted for the Airbus long haul plane long time before AF came and "took them over" !!! Conclusion -> AF wasn't responsible for the Airbus order of KLM. Fullstop
The reason why KL opted for the A330 ? Well I don't know, I found it strange myself since they only operated Boeings in that category of planes, but the reason is certainly not AF.

And MK, well imagine you have some B767's and some A340's in your fleet. To imporve comonality and save money would you rather dump the B767's and take some additional A340's or would you dump the A340's and what take some B767's which aren't that knew (technology wise) or even dump both the B767's and A340's to have B777's ?

BTW Airbus probably made the better deal as well....

I know that, see also the other topic where I explained why KL opted for the A330's (AF had indeed influence in that Chris!) besides the NW deal.
But still I am happy for MK since they are a good airline but people react that it is a total celebration for Airbus and in my view it was not more then logical seen the MK backgrounds and history (see also ATR's).
I will rest my case and will sleep a night over it ;)

Here it is:

Air France

Air France has a 7.67% interest (including both direct and indirect holdings) in the share capital of Air Mauritius Limited.
Because AF has 7 % of Air Mauritius they have chosen airbus? You are talking about AF, the carrier that flies mostly Boeing longhaul?
If AF wanted MK to fly airbus, and it wouldn't have been the best decision, the other 93 % wouldn't have done anything about it?
7% of a company is not enough to have that kind of power, you need at least 50%+ 1 share for that...

A318,
In addition, the two companies have provided maintenance and handling services to each other.
And how would that have changed if MK had gone for the 777? A plane which AF ALSO operates, and can do maintenance on.

Moreover, AF also do the maintenance for the 2 Air Autral B777s, which are PW powered (and not GE).

but can anyone tell me what the difference is between a A340-300X and A340-300E.
All I know is that the "E" stands for "Enhanced". The new A330E and A340E have an enhanced cabin which is similar to the design of the -500/-600 series. Especially the lining and Lavatory design has changed with the introduction of the -500/-600 and Enhanced Cabin (A330/A340).
