It will go better for Airbus next year. Once the A380 has entered revenue service with the first airlines (SIA, UAE, QFA...), things will go better for them. The A380 is a big one and Airbus invest so much effort (and money) that it must be (will be) a success.

Today in Kanaal Z: all the delivery's of the A380 are posponed with 2 to 6 months. This for all the airlines who ordered by Airbus. Airbus has to pay panalty's for this.

Hard time for Airbus now. I wonder what caused the delay in the program ?
Suppliers or Airbus itself ?

Yes, wiring problems is that what I have heard today. This is not
all of the problems but one of those which causes the delay at the
moment.

Quick question - was the B747 also delayed for its first flight ? Agree we are speaking 30 yrs before with no computers ...etc..etc, but just a question.

@vivek0072, yes, the Boeing 747 was delayed by a months. The first Boeing 747's should have been delivered to Pan Am in December 1969, but was deliverded in January 1970 instead. But to be fair, it has to be said that the Boeing 747 JT-9D engines had a lot of problems, which only could be solved during 1970 after a revised redesign of the engine.

Absolutely! it had lots of little glitches, but nowhere near what Airbus is going through, I feel bad for the crew building this plane, it has to be disheartening for them as well.

Yes, the people building the A380 must be very disappointed now.
After the successful maiden flight in April they have now all these
problems. I am sure they are working day and night to reduce the
delivery schedule impact to a minimum.

It's a fact that IFE didn't exist back in 1970, either more than 15 proposed different cabins.

Airbus now says it wasn't Airbus said Airbus

Is this starting to sound suspiciously like a cover-up.

I think Airbus and the suppliers were just a bit too optimistic and they
have now a delay in the program. When all parties work together
hardly on these issues they should be able to reduce the impact
acoordingly.

I think we should not be to negative about the delay of the A380, delays are nothing out of the ordinary when some sophisticated product comes on the market which incorporates a lot of new technology. The problem appear with military aircraft, cars (Like when the new BMW's and Mercedes' came out) and trucks (my uncle had massive problems with the electronics of the MB Actros when they joined his fleet back in the 90's).
One always should expect technical difficulties or other problems which can delay such a massive project of that size.

But as with the B747, those difficulties will be solved and after a certain period everything will run smooth as it should be. So no big deal.....

Well said, B744skipper ! Better a delayed and good A380 as an aircraft
which is pushed into revenue service without the appropriate reliability.
I only hope that the financial impact for Airbus is not too big for the airline
compensations.

Let's hope that the A380 will only be delayed by 6 months. Otherwise
some airlines could cancel their orders / options....just my thoughts...
