yes Lithuania's predicency of the EU will start on July first. I guess that is why BRU got priority

Indeed, it was mentionned earlier on in this topic already that they would start and last year it was also said that BRU would be one of the first because of the EU presidency.

Lithuania first asked Brussels Airlines to double their flights to Vilnius because of their EU presidency, but SN only wanted to do that if they received financial compensation if the flights proved to be loss making and that was quite an amount of money (according to Lithuania).

The route from Leeds Bradford (Britain's worst airport) to Brussels has been axed by operator bmi Regional. The flight had operated three times daily until early 2011, when it was reduced to twice daily.

This is the second British airport to lose its Brussels service this year. The almost-as-awful-as-LBA Newcastle lost its Brussels route earlier in 2013.

We are June, and I have not picked up 1 British business person at a Belgian airport yet this year. I had several mutual visits to Belgian customers but all came by car/ferry/train.

Train might be OK for people coming from the south of England, but in the north the best way is still to fly - ferry is overnight and not very nice in my opinion, whereas flying takes less than an hour (the old moan about having to be at the airport so many hours before for check in is rather outdated now there is mobile and internet check in for flights, you can check in on your way to the airport). MAN is the only northern airport with a BRU service, though it is a vastly superior airport to NCL or LBA.

During its first month of operations Air Lituanica has carried out 98 flights, for a total capacity of 7448 seats and a load factor of 65% (sources at the airline are confident that this is figure is going to be up to 70% after the summer) on its Brussels and Amsterdam routes. An interesting detail is that Air Lituanica seems to have a very balanced mixed of Lithuanian and foreign passengers, roughly half and half.

1) As my avatar suggests, I have worked for Sabena (a long time ago)
2) I am retired now, which gives me some free time to read a lot of articles about aviation
3) I still have contacts in the aviation world

Now back to topic!

Those who had hoped that the suspension of EVA Air Cargo flights at BRU was only temporary will be disappointed. The closure of the Brussels office makes EVA's departure definitive.

But it was also already published on the website Travel Magazine:)

To bad Travel Magazine doesn't know that BR doesn't have cargo flights to AMS, LHR, CDG and VIE. The only other European destination which receives BR cargo planes is FRA.
